The wonder of the billions of creatures and plant life forms that have been on Earth and are now on Earth and their behavior convinces me there is some kind of organized system to life. I don't believe for one second we are supposed to know at this point but only to guess and or act like we know by creating religious ideas until science succeeds or fails to come up with something concrete. Destiny sticks in my belief of existence and I believe/hope through science mankind will arrive at it's destiny whatever that is. Their is a reason for everything we learn about life. We are supposed to try to find the truth as it is in our DNA. Because Earth is not permanent man will seek and find life elsewhere or find a way to live beyond the years given to this planet. But my question remains if we live as long as the universe lives what is our goal, what are we supposed to do to fit in to the equation of life? Is it possible even after say, one billion years of scientific investigation we still will never learn the exact truth?

I guess that is for us all to decide. Individually, it is up to you to determine the purpose of your life. Collectively I'd have a few suggestions for our species:
1. Become a multiplanetary species, so no one single event can render us extinct.
2. Build a virtual heaven for our dead to pass over into and exist in, and be visited.
3. Explore, understand the universe as best we can, find others if possible.

rhinefire, et al,

This entire question might be considered to be an invalid or otherwise faulty formulation to the interrogative. In essence, it is Black-or-White fallacy (God-No God) in which a False Dilemma that unfairly limits the answer to only one of two choices; black and white.

There is little question that there are many fundamentalist that Religion is a form of divinely inspired truth; a nonsecular view. There are some that science helps define what is true; a secular view. And then there are those that the Natural Order (science) is completely separate and unrelated to the Supernatural Order (religious). This separatist view has become the haven where science has become politically vulnerable to the religious. If you are a politician, a member of the academic community, or influential leader, the revelation that you an atheist or agnostic is exploitable.

Besides science and religion, there is the interloper to both science and religion: magic. While religion relates to the Supernatural, and the Science relates to the Natural, Magic is found to be in both realms.

• In the Supernatural, there is the cleric that can change water into wine, or wine into sacred blood. There are some devote that indulge in ritualistic practices --- gestures that are to invoke the hand of the divine for intervention in spiritual and physical matters. Even in places in America today, there are still practitioners of spiritual folkways and syncretic religion like Voodoo as a means of the Supernatural world to effect the physical realm of today.

• In the world of science and observation, there are examples in societies that observe planetary and celestial movements as a means of determining the course of future terrestrial events. There are the spiritual practices of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, performing rituals that establish an Earthly connection to the spirit world of the ancestors. And there are still today certain Gypsy and Romani followers that exhibit mystical psychic and precognition powers that still in practice today. Once it has been rule out that a mental or physical illness is not the cause, the initial point at which the demonic possession is addressed is called the Rituale Romanum.

Witches in the 21st Century - Office of the High Commissioner - UN Human Rights said:
The Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Philip Alston, in his most recent report to the Human Rights Council, says: “In too many settings, being classified as a witch is tantamount to receiving a death sentence.” --- ---- --- He believes protection should be offered to those whose lives are endangered by accusations of witchcraft.

There is no reason to assume that the question of science, religion and magic, will be solved in the 21st Century.

Most Respectfully,
R
