Religion diminishes intellect[W:114,1607]

It's still 38 percent. That is almost unbelievable in this day and age. What happened to education over there?

Between xians and socialist teachers and teacher's federations...it has gone all to hell.

I find this one an amazing eye witness account.
Kings 2: 23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!" 24When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number.

God sent bears to kill boys for some childish mocking. Can you have a more ****ed up god than that?

well this is why satanists exist - the devil is the protagonist who stood up to the monster who butchers his own creation

what blows my mind isn't why anyone would follow such a mythical tyrant. Plenty of people are tyrannical sadists, after all. But how can there be this split personality message of peace and love and submissiveness that permeates the jesus doctrine and still people follow both like they're the same god?

Actually no. Just the opposite. I was once like you guys. Maybe that is why I am talking to you here.
I would have fit right in with you all at one point in my life.

yeah that's super believable. In my observation, this kind of conversion only happens when someone close dies and the mourner is unable to cope with thoughts that they're anywhere other than "a better place"

which largely explains the rise of christianity and psychology behind religion to begin with

So what are you implying? That unbelievers deserve to die? And god sends bears to kill them when a curse is made in his name?

I guess he should run to the nearest forest to be mauled by a bear then, since he says he 'used to be like us'

2 generations ago, there were 1 room schools in my state "teaching" all grades and every family had kids who dropped out by age 8-9 to help at the farm. Plenty of that age group is still alive and of course indoctrinated their own kids. Republicans also try to preserve this ignorance and expand their base with vouchers to dogmatic private "schools" Then consider that the economy is so awful and prospects for new grads so lousy that kids just don't want to learn. They're also taught by people barely more informed than they, the natural result of pitiful teacher compensation (another reason republicans keep cutting school funding)

And finally, as we saw last week at a CA public school, admins who don't have the balls or principles to fire a damn probationary teacher who preaches to his students about how 'sinful' they are

So to also answer nota bene, we are considered about this form of child abuse and intellectual slave holding

Insanity has been defined as repeatedly doing the same thing the same way and expecting different results; this defines prayer to a T.

pray for ? Momentum Comic

Long past time we stopped murdering people in the name of mythology.

I mentioned earlier that the veracity of the biel and the existence of jesus has been challenged for a very long time. You can read about it here; Demolishing the historicity of Jesus ? A History.

Interesting that xians claim that people who lived close to the alleged time of jesus wrote things which prove he existed, but deny challenges to that from others who lived similarly close to the time. Challenges from people far smarter than those who made the positive claims and forged all manner of documents to make them look true.

Believe what you will, but it will be at your own peril when you stand before a Holy God and he says to you "why did you deny my existence?" before He casts you into the Lake of Fire. (Rev. 20)

:lamo Your ignorance of your own religion merely emphasizes your overall ignorance.

Looks like you might be in trouble, in that case.

What has happened is that that religious right has forced their will on our population in defiance of science. Education is just fine, but of little value if people are not open to it.

..and the Catholic Church has been in the vanguard of that.

And she will have a conservative leaning SC to back her up should it come to that and it should.

Not much hope from the SC these days if someone wants to improve civil rights, they'll vote that down but be in favour of anything which dumbs down the populace. We have evidence right here on these threads just what happens when people aren't well edumacated.

You have to wonder about people who can continue to support the RCC after they read this: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/269527/a-03-expert-declaration-by-patrick-j-wall.pdf

...and this: http://law.hamline.edu/files/pdfs/jlr/pdfs/Lytton.Rev.pdf

One can only conclude those who do continue their support of what is demonstrably the world's oldest and largest criminal organization, are either mentally or morally incompetent or both.

Are there any rcc's here arguing on this thread?
People from that group usually do not last more than a few posts in these debates. I find that asking the two questions, Is mother theresa in heaven and do they really believe in transmogrification is enough to make them run away.

There is at least one, but as you point out, essentially toothless and largely clueless about his/her own faith.

More damning evidence against the RCC: The Pope's Treasure

These hypocrites send out prayer for starving children standing in robes, gowns, shoes and funny hats worth enough to feed a village for a year. If prayer worked, these pedophiles would all be dead.

So what are you implying? That unbelievers deserve to die? And god sends bears to kill them when a curse is made in his name?

Yes, more or less. Without Christ we all deserve death. That is the cost of sin. But the good news is Christ is available to all of us if we will. He stands at the door.
Few will open the door. ...

Then maybe you can explain the tremendous anger and pain that seems to drive this thread. I can only assume that militant atheists have been badly hurt by religion.

I think in part this is very true. Men have taken religion where it ought not to go, tying up loads that they won't carry themselves.
But in part it is also about hurt pride. Almost all of us naturally want to be our own God, and it is difficult for us to lay that at the feet of Christ.
