Is there that much latitude within the 10 Commandments?

Georgia florist’s religious hypocrisy: She’ll serve adulterers, but gay couples are ‘a different kind of sin’

“In the Ten Commandments, it says you can’t commit adultery,” reporter Gary Tuchman said to the florist, Melissa Jeffcoat, adding, “It says you need to honor your father and mother.”

When he asked whether she would provide flowers for an adulterer or someone who had “dishonored” their parents, she replied affirmatively.

“Well, why would you serve them but not serve someone who is gay?” Tuchman asked.

“It’s just a different kind of sin to me,” Jeffcoat replied. “I just don’t believe in it.”

Georgia legislators had reportedly been considering a bill similar to the ones recently passed in Arkansas and Indiana, both of which have generated heavy criticism nationwide. But WMAZ-TV reported on Wednesday that the Georgia version of the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” is stalled in committee.

She is in error. Adultery is every bit as serious a sin as homosexual activity, Biblically speaking.

However, I doubt many customers come in and announce that they would like some flowers for their adultery, so... :)

technically sin is sin and God views all sin the same.

you are right I doubt she would do a wedding for a couple of adulters if they announced it to the world.

I don't believe this.
Adultery is the same as murder?

Biblically speaking. There are quite a few verses in the bible that describes how God views sin, or the common saying, "All sin is equal in the eyes of God".

James 2:10-11 ESV

"For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law."

It comes from the PoV of keeping or breaking Gods laws.

Well, it does make more sense that sin is a sin. Regardless....And you could order flowers for a adulteress. ;)

My Jesuit education based off Catholic teaching isn't saying the same thing.

And unless you have a PHD in theology, I think I'll side with my theology teacher.

While I understand that murder and adultery are both violations of the commandments, I struggle with the equality of sins aspect.
I can't believe that God would judge an adulterer and murderer as equal sinners.
I think some sins are deserving of harsher punishment.
Thank you for providing me with a biblical reference.

If that is truly what God believes the church has taken a different stance.

The vibe I got from Ludin was "every sin is the same" which I just think is hilariously false.

Otherwise a person who steals a penny would have to be held in the same light as a murderer.

And that is just one of the faults in Biblical morality. Adultery is nowhere near as bad as murder.

"Yeah, I'd like one of those $5 Dandelion bouquets for my wife and a dozen roses for my girlfriend."

That's only because you don't understand how God views the body and soul differently.

Maybe Dante was right about the nine circles of hell?
Different levels for different sins?
None of Dante's circles sound so good, but maybe some sinners are short-timers and the really bad sinners are lifers eternalists?

I understand the reasoning the Bible gives, it's just crap.

Indeed. In Gods' view, because marriage makes two people one, adultery IS a kind of murder.

That and the fact that God views the soul as more important. Anyone can kill the body, but only God can kill the soul. All sin damages the soul equally from a Biblical perspective I think.

That's because Catholics believe in the Doctrine of Venal v Mortal Sin, which is traditional for them, but non-Biblical. But, then, Sola Scriptura is a recognized point of contention. :)

It makes sense that it's all or nothing. To be able pick and choose and put a sliding scale on sin just doesn't make sense.... it would allow too much up for interpretation.

To be fair, adulterers probably do buy lots of flowers.

Somebody who calls themselves "Dem" talking about hypocrisy?:lamo

I think people just like to pick & choose the parts of the Bible, that fits their way of thinking. So being gay is a sin they say. But so is passing judgment on someone for their sins. In other words to many people like to play God. They have a holier than thou attitude. IMO this pisses God off more than any other sin.

I wonder sometimes what these people are going to when they get to heaven & God is a black lesbian. I would love to see their face.
