A Must-See Episode of Glenn Beck - Faith of our Founders

There are no must-see episodes of Glen Beck.

If you want to learn about American history, research it. Read all of the primary documents and secondary interpretations you can.

i agree
it is typical beck foolishness

"Your Kids Aren't Being Taught This In School."

Thankfully.

Maybe you all should just bite the bullet and watch it. Then maybe we can discuss it instead of just throwing around insults.

Yes, making happy future Brawndo drinkers. It has electrolytes you know.

That requires an open mind and putting aside one's biases. Don't hold your breath.

There's always hope that someone will stop refusing to listen because they dislike the messenger. I would love for any liberal to watch that show and post here what was said that was false.

I generally agree with the quick glance of keywords he was describing. I just consider it intellectually lazy and deplorable to receive education of Americana via a radio show host performer who turns to exaggeration, misinterpretation, and bravado.

Read, research, reflect, and read some more.

One of the sad things is that many children in our schools aren't learning about our history, and in our current sound-byte society, just about anything Beck has on his show beats "American Idol" or whatever that television show is about miserable housewives.;) Oh, and I forgot, the World Wrestling Federation. Yessirree, that's a real brain activity booster.:)

Actually, those things aren't portrayed as anything but mindless entertainment, but some people actually have the sad and mistaken impression that Glen Beck is a journalist.

If you want to learn about the faith of the America founding fathers, I'd love to recommend the following, which contain actual scholarship and depth:

David McCullough's excellent book, John Adams

Ken Burns' excellent documentary, Thomas Jefferson (online at http://www.pbs.org/jefferson/)

Jared Stewart's The Life of Gouverneur Morris (7 chapters online here: http://colonialhall.com/morrisg/GouverneurMorrisBiographyVol1Page001.php)

Joseph Ellis's Founding Brothers and His Excellency: George Washington

Walter Isaacson's Benjamin Franklin: An American Life

Walter Stahr's John Jay: Founding Father

Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton

My experience, however, is that the average Glen Beck fan isn't interested in learning anything at all, but rather, in having existing paradigms reinforced.

That's weird, Catz, because Glenn recommends books like that all the time. You don't really know much about him, eh?

That's exactly what Beck says too. Interesting.

This show is also based on original writings of the Founders. I'm not sure why you wouldn't check it out for yourself.

I've watched his show many times. I seriously doubt he's read those books, though I do enjoy it when he cries.

Because the problem with Glen Beck is that along with quotes from the founding fathers, he will feel free to insert his own projections, ideas, and do too damn much doodling on the ****ing white board. And people who take him seriously get on my last damn nerve.

Again, you're showing that you know nothing about him. Try watching the show I posted and tell me what you think. I dare you.

Wow. Anonymous chick on an internet forum dared me. However shall I handle the mental/emotional struggle?

What I've seen of Glen Beck has convinced me that his scholarship is shoddy and his research half-assed. Why would I waste time on his propaganda when I can read something factual and well-researched?

Ahhhh okay. Don't watch the man who has the largest collection of original early American documents in the world discuss the faith of our Founders. This show is like a history class. I challenge anyone to watch it and tell me what is untrue.

Gosh, ya might even learn something you didn't know. Or you could remain clueless and afraid to challenge your thinking. *shrug*

The state of illiteracy amongst the American populace is truly sad.

Oh, look. The two books recommended on the show are now #2 and #3 on the bestseller list on amazon.

If you think that a show that begins with: "Does it matter that our president is surrounded by socialists and marxists..." is a "history" lesson, I don't even know how to comment. But thanks for providing us with these insights into your intellectual standards.

p.s. That is the worst shirt/tie combo I've ever seen. A paisley tie DOES NOT MATCH a plaid shirt. Cheese and rice.

Get back to me when you've watched the entire show. I'll be interested in the untruths you claim he spouts.
