Seems like that talk about a wave of anti-democrat backlash is a little more hype than substance:

Democrat wins Fla. US House special election - Yahoo! News

Florida Democratic state Sen. Ted Deutch handily won Tuesday's special election to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler after his underdog GOP opponent attempted to make the contest a referendum on the massive health care bill.

"We've heard for months that tonight ... is a referendum on health care, it's a referendum on the (Obama) administration, it's a referendum on what direction this country is going," Deutch told supporters

Wow. A democrat won a seat in a democrat district.

Will wonders ever cease?

LOL Its Broward county no less as well.

Thats like a democrat winning in San Fransisco.

Did you even bother to look at the history of the district before declaring this some sort of special win DD?

A Democrat winning in a district where democrats outnumber two-to-one is not surprising. DD - do you actually do any research or read the article before you post? If you had, you would notice that this is not news. You could put Mickey Mouse's name with a (D) next to his name in that district and he would win. Talk about much ado about less than nothing...

Tex makes a valid point DD. Some districts are simply going to go democrat, some republican. It's not a good time to go get overconfident about November. Let's let republicans do that, while we do everything we can to win. Coakley is a good example of what happens when you get overconfident. I don't think things are going to be as bad for us in November as some try and suggest, but I think we have to work our asses off to minimize the amount of damage done, and we are going to lose seats.

I think I understand why he posted this. He's probably tired of reading about how Republicans hear think that they will take control of both hosues in Congress and he wanted to jump at the chance to prove you guys wrong.

While I doubt republicans will win either house or senate, this does not prove that. Further, it is possible we loose both house and senate, and so we need to spend as much effort as we can to not do so.

This does absolutely nothing to show any possible trend for November. I don't know how it will go, but no national trend can be devined from a race won by a Democrat by almost a 2:1 margin in a district that is more than 2:1 Democrat.

Sorry....but if the GOP wants to make any impact in the election they are going to have to do more than win the seats they already hold :doh

And they will. But this isn't a 50/50 seat. Its a democrat stronghold seat.

wexler's seat!

LOL!

that's like trying to make something out of a republican winning IN UTAH!

i mean, a dem taking WEXLER'S SEAT (LOL!) isn't quite the same thing as a republican gub candidate (tom corbett) leading in PENNSYLVANIA by THIRTY

it's not as if EVERY candidate for governor of MICHIGAN has a DOUBLE DIGIT lead over andy dillon

it's not as if what's going on in wisconisin is going on in wisconsin

dems holding WEXLER'S SEAT isn't quite the same as little red wannabe nobodies leading the SENATE MAJORITY LEADER in the SILVER STATE by a DOZEN

DEMS WIN IN BROWARD---a BOMBSHELL

LOL!

why, congrats!

As previously stated, I'd be more impressed if this was a district that wasn't predominantly Democrat.

Then again, I consider the source of the thread.

anyplace that elected a raving egomaniacal blowhard moonbat like Wexler doesn't have the collective intelligence to elect a Republican. Its akin to the places that supply congress with volcanic moron eruptions spewing winners like Nancy Botox and Maxine "the meathead" Waters or John, the Corrupt, Conyers

And they will. But this isn't a 50/50 seat. Its a democrat stronghold seat.

Again....for the GOP to make any major impact, they are not only going to have to retain ALL of their seats, they are also going to have to win all of the toss-ups...all of the leaning Republican and carry a good amount of the leaning Democrat seats.

A Democrat won in the ghetto?

Color me shocked.

It's going to be an ass-kicking of the highest order. Get ready.

Swing states are going HEAVY Republican right now.

IS that nessecarily a good thing? I mean even if republicans win, they're just as, if not more incompetent then democrats are. IMHO you need to scrap your two party system, its really letting you down.

Both parties are moronic.

This really isn't anything too special. The district has many Democrat voters. Here are some states from an article I just read.
District 19 is 50.9 percent Democratic and 24.2 percent Republican, with 24.9 percent of voters belonging to no party or minor parties. The district voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008.
Source:April 13 special election to replace Wexler a referendum on Obama?

Also, here are the exact election results from the Florida Department of State Division of Elections Florida Department of State - Election Results

35.2% voted for the Republican, 62.1% for the Democrat, and 2.7% for another guy. Honestly this wasn't too bad for Republicans considering only 24.2% are registered in the party.

Boca Raton is a ghetto??

Perhaps they are hiding all the section 8 housing somewhere in those gated communities there, and that is why I never noticed them :2razz:

Boca Raton, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yup obviously completely ghetto, surprised i had never noticed :doh

Yeah, you've obviously never been to Broward County.

It's one of the most dangerous, crime-ridden, drug-infested counties in the United States.

Boca represents about a 1/2 percent of the county.

you are obviously unaware that the majority of the 19th is in Palm Beach county, and just a little teeny bit of it is Broward county, and that little bit is around Coral Springs, not really much ghetto there either.

edit: btw Boca is in Palm Beach county, and occupies 0% of Broward county.

Both parties are moronic.

Only since the Democrats turned socialist, and the Republicans started trying to "reach across the aisle" all the damn time.

If a party would just embrace conservatism and constitutionalism, they would resonate with the vast majority of Americans.

But the Democrats have been successful in creating a voting base that is entirely dependent on the government. Entitlement is a huge problem with a vast majority of unskilled, uneducated Americans that feels it's beneath them to do unskilled labor or pay taxes.

the republicans have a very real chance to take both houses

the senate is so much easier to follow, naturally, and all signs upstairs...

well, i've never seen anything like it (nor, therefore, have you)

a MAJORITY LEADER trailing at home to some pipsqueak gop upstart...

a LIPTON LOVER leading a benedict traitor by anything, let alone MORE THAN A HALF DOZEN, in the KEYSTONE STATE...

a republican leading in BIDEN'S SEAT by MORE THAN TWENTY

according to DAILY KOS (LOL!)

KOS was the ONLY POLL in the nation to get SCOTT BROWN wrong

a republican as rhino as i've ever seen LEADS in ILLINOIS---bh OBAMA's SEAT!

i've never seen anything like it

my side for sure is gonna pick up mass seats upstairs in november

that much can be seen clear from here

enough to take control?

doesn't really matter

either way, the party in power is utterly stalled

actually, she already is

what's available to obama, what remains within reach?

cap and trade, reg reform, immigration?

the bank tax, debt commission, spending freeze?

the offshore drill, dadt, prosecution of cia?

the moving of ksm to manhattan, closure of gitmo?

reachout to iran?

sanctions?

currency negotiation with hu?

international climate?

just what remains WITHIN REACH of bh obama the ALREADY IRRELEVANT?

and what's gonna become of his platform in november when opposition makes HUGE gains in upstairs, in pelosi's place, in the state capitals, in the assemblies?

what's gonna become of the already outta reach agenda when november winds blow?

what's he gonna be able to achieve between now and then, for that matter?

upshot---the house is always hard to see but the senate is usually pretty clear

the house is always much swingier than upstairs, that is, it's much easier for lower house to change hands than upper

and yet my side is very, very strong even in the staunch and stuffy senate

if we don't take em we'll come close which is just as good

progressivism is expired, either way

hey, ahab harpooned his white whale, didn't he?

i hope it was everything you wanted

Wasn't he in a very solid Demon district ? Also wasn't there a third party splitting the vote of the "other side" ?

Another candidate for the "learn about political ideologies couse" I see. Will people ever learn what socialism is or will them just droibble out the S word whenver they do not have an intelligent position to state ? Never mind I now he answer they will spit out the socialist word.
