If they executed the man he would not be celebrating his 58th birthday as a free man.

Birthday bash for 'dying' Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi sickens crash victims' kin

Birthday bash for 'dying' Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi sickens crash victims' kin
The Lockerbie bomber celebrated his 58th birthday on Thursday at a Libyan mansion, defying the imminent death Scottish officials predicted when they compassionately freed him from prison nearly eight months ago.

The thought of Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi partying with family and friends - reportedly thanking God for his survival - left his victims' loved ones sick to their stomachs.

"It's absolutely despicable. It's horrific because my daughter had only 20 birthdays," said Susan Cohen of Cape May, N.J.

Cohen's daughter, Theodora, a student at Syracuse University, was among 270 killed Dec. 21, 1988, when Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed in midair over Lockerbie, Scotland.

"I actually had my birthday on the 27th [of March], and this is a pretty awful late birthday present," said Cohen, 72.

Megrahi, the only terrorist convicted of the bombing, was sentenced to life in prison in 2001 for assisting in the mass-murder bombing.

Yeah socialist Scotland is one of the many sissy nations across the pond. I was on another board awhile back and a few of the Scottish members were boasting about letting the scum bag free. They said the reason they released him was to "defy the American bullies".

He didn't do it, it was the Syrians.

Re: Birthday bash for 'dying' Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi sickens crash vi

He's the worst kind to let go free. A dying man has even less to fear from a suicide bombing. At least if you're young you get deprived the best years of your life. When your ticket is about to be punched, there's nothing stopping you from going out with a bang, no pun intended.

The real problem is that America is receiving too many of the attacks. Europe needs a few more 7/7s and Madrids so they can wake up and not speak from a safe anecdotal perspective. When you know they can bring the fight to your backyard, you watch a little closer from that pedastal.

He was convicted on all charges and sent to prison. He is guilty.

According to our fellow socialist in office, terrorists deserve rights and freedom too. Even after they murder innocent people. This is a typical failure of socialist policies and weakness in action.

Then you know nothing about what happens in the UK Justice system then. We frequently and particularly in cases where there is a huge demand to see someone convicted, convict the wrong people and need to release them later.

There are indeed huge questions over this trial and whether he was guilty.

While I am sure this brings it all back to the families of those who died, I am sure they too would like to see the right people convicted.

As to his release this is simply Scottish Law. If it is believed you are going to die within 6 months you are released.

How many cases are actually like this?

Then that should be investigated. Not release a terrorist due to some idiotic compassionate grounds BS.

For some reason I have a hard time believing that the UK just sat by and let one of their states or territories release a terrorist, especially considering the alleged oil and trade deals for that terrorist release.

Lockerbie bomber's release linked to trade deal, claims Gaddafi's son - Telegraph

Lockerbie bomber 'set free for oil' - Times Online

If it is believed you are going to die within 6 months you are released.

This is a good reason to have a death penalty.Just in case some scumbag in office over here makes a idiotic law like that basically makes compassion synonymous with retarded.

Re: Birthday bash for 'dying' Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi sickens crash vi

He had an appeal in the pipeline, which looked likely to be successful. The diagnosis presented an opportunity for those in power to avoid the embarrassment of his winning the case, and leaving nobody guilty. The condition for his compassionate release was that he drop his appeal.
Like his namesake, the Gippers' comments are beneath contempt.

That's fine. Maybe a few threats of dirty bombs in your neighborhood and you'll take a more logical and realistic view on situations like these.

Is there any evidence of this or is it just conspiracy loon stuff? Releasing a terrorist due to some crock shit compassionate grounds is completely idiotic and a possibility of some oil trade deal looks like the UK government sold them out.So you have idiocy and or corruption which looks far worse than someone getting a successful appeal.

Is there any evidence of this

Here's another

The end game: The fate of Lockerbie bomber - Scotsman.com News

The appeal was due to begin in earnest next month, and those who have followed the Lockerbie case for the last two decades were waiting with anticipation. For two years, ever since the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC) had agreed the appeal should go ahead, there had been speculation about the evidence it might bring forward. Scotland on Sunday reported in 2007 that Megrahi's lawyers would put forward new evidence that a key witness in the case, Maltese shopkeeper Tony Gauci, had been paid a £2m reward by US investigators for giving crucial prosecution evidence. We also reported how a retired CIA agent had provided new evidence which suggested that Iran was behind the bombing, and had then paid a terrorist group known as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine to carry out the attack. Perhaps most damning of all, there was talk that evidence had been tampered with by Scottish and American police so as to lead to Megrahi's conviction.

....

But for many, the decision of Megrahi's lawyers to ditch his appeal last week, was proof in itself that a deal had been done. SNP MSP Christine Grahame stepped forward, claiming to have seen a Scottish Government e-mail which said that al–Megrahi had been put under pressure to drop his appeal before his compassionate release would be granted. Oliver Miles, a former British ambassador to Libya, declared yesterday: "It's pretty likely there was a deal." Others close to the case say that there would have been strong pressure from within the Scottish Government's justice department and the Crown Office to ensure that, at all costs, the appeal be dumped. One senior justice figure said: "They (the Scottish Government] don't want an appeal to pick over the justice system and show it to have been wanting. Don't forget that Kenny (MacAskill] is part of that system. He is a legal man through and through. This is an administration which places great stock in establishing its competence. They don't want to see the Scottish justice system dragged through the mud".

Time to put Libya back on the s%*t list until they learn to behave on matters like this and the idiotic row with Switzerland.

If he had an appeal then let him appeal.

Don't release him before he has proven himself innocent.

But apparently that is too much to ask.

This is one of the biggest reasons for the weakness of modern day Western Europe.
