When I see references to the O/P or the OP

Does it refer to the Opening Post or the Opening Poster. I can never quite remember :)

I think it varies among everyone. I personally refer to the OP as the "Original poster" or thread starter. Others refer to the OP as the "Opening Post'.

Dictionary.com tends to agree with me anyway - What Does OP Mean? | Slang by Dictionary.com

What does OP mean?
On internet forums and message boards, OP is short for original poster, or the person who started the thread that users comment on.

I'll will go with that :)

Hopefully to the Original (Opening?) Post (e.g. the OP's first link), since personal attacks are frowned upon (e.g. the OP's moronic attitude).

Are you talking about my attitude in my OP?

:)

Isn’t the ‘opening post’ posted by the ‘opening poster?’ :doh

Not at all - I was simply explaining how I use the term "OP" in reply to your OP. If I was talking about rjay's confused attitude then I would have typed a few more letters. ;)

I don't belong to a lot of forums, but I always took it as both, Original Post or Original Poster.

If someone says the OP was asking for advice, then of course it's the person posting. If someone says the link in the OP was corrupt, then it refers to the original post of the thread.

Both.

As with everything else, context is your friend.

Example...

"According to the OP in his OP, blah, blah, blah..."
