Looks like they probably found some debris about 1500 mi W of Perth.

I don't think the Australian PM would make an announcement like this if they weren't pretty sure. Those Satellites can resolve images pretty tightly.

Australia spots possible objects in ocean
By Chelsea J. Carter
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CNN) - [Breaking news update at 23:24 p.m. Wednesday ]

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Thursday that authorities have spotted two objects in the Indian Ocean that are possibly related to the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

The reports say the objects were found in the southern Indian Ocean and a Royal Australian Air Force plane is attempting closer inspection.

Australian search teams have been at the forefront of search efforts in the remote southern ocean.

Our PM is holding a press conference in relation to updated findings in about half an hour.

Let me know when they've actually investigated. So far one was a false alarm, one was a big box, and I can't even remember what the third one spotted by satellite was.

Yeah- but these are the Australians. The others were the Chinese and Malaysians, who look pretty incompetent.

I would think the PM is hyper aware of this, and wouldn't spit this out in public unless it was really solid.

Then again, if the PM is like a US GOP house member (like a Gohmert) or something, maybe it's just nuttiness.

I don't think the satellites are any different therefore the data is just as suspect unless and until someone is physically close enough to verify what it is. As many times as the families have been mislead, I think it's horrible of the Australian PM or anyone to be making statements that may lead once again to false hopes for them. JMO.

He hasn't done anything of the sort. There is an updated press release due out in about 15 minutes. This is what he announced in Parlliament a couple of hours ago.

Two objects possibly related to the search for a missing Malaysia Airlines plane have been identified, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says.
Mr Abbott told parliament "new and credible information" had come to light in the search for MH370. "The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has received information based on satellite information of objects possibly related to the search," he said before question time.

"Following specialist analysis of this satellite imagery, two possible objects related to the search have been identified."

The prime minister said an Australian airforce Orion had been diverted to locate the objects and is expected to arrive in the area shortly. "Three more aircraft will follow," he said. "They are tasked for (a) more intensive follow up search."

Mr Abbott said he has informed Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak of the developments. But he warned against drawing any premature conclusions or hopes on the search.

"We must keep in mind the task of locating these objects will be extremely difficult and it may turn out that they are not related to the search for flight MH370," Mr Abbott said.

AMSA is due to reveal more details at 3.30pm AEDT.

But as you underline, they could end up being absolutely nothing related. At this point, I think such speculative information should be held quietly until confirmed and if not confirmed, never mentioned.

The press conference was disappointing..Apparently they feel that the PM got too excited and spoke too soon.. The satellite did pick up some large objects which could be the plane, but could possibly be something else as well. One of our planes is out there too. They are saying that visibility is poor.. So only time will tell...
