Former Va. Gov. McDonnell, wife indicted on federal corruption charges

Former Virginia Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell and wife Maureen were indicted Tuesday on federal corruption charges for allegedly accepting gifts, vacations and loans from a businessman seeking special treatment from the state for his fledgling business.

The 14-count indictment includes charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and false statements in connection with the McDonnells’ relationship to Jonnie R. Williams Sr., chief executive of nutritional supplements maker Star Scientific Inc.

It seems the former first lady of Virginia is at the root of the McDonnell's problems
In 2009, just before the governor's inauguration, first lady Maureen McDonnell wrote to a senior staffer for her husband: "I need answers and Bob is screaming about the thousands I'm charging up in credit card debt. We are broke, have an unconscionable amount in credit card debt already, and this inaugural is killing us!"

Even before they took up residence in the governor's mansion, Williams was offering the family money. He was known as a donor who allowed the McDonnells use of his private jet on the campaign trail. In December, he was willing to pay for an Oscar de la Renta dress that the cash-strapped first lady could wear to the inauguration.

Disappointing as hell. He needs to be prosecuted.

Ooof. Why is it that those who scream the loudest about morality and whatnot end up like this?

I guess if you don't have any standards, you're never guilty of wrongdoing, right?

Who said that? A lot of people from high places fall. But the morality preachers seem to do so in a rather large percentage.

Besides, not putting on a front of fake morality doesn't mean you have no standards... it more likely means your standards are actually real.

Just like the GOP with GLBTs, Prostitutes, and Dope.

They're not too clever with that glass house thing .

In all fairness I have not heard the Repubs refer to themselves as the party of morals and ethics for many, many years. I guess it even became too embarrassing for even them to say.

Would you have felt that way if he was starting a 2nd term, as with Christie?

Interesting that VA and NJ have their gubernatorial elections on the same odd year after the POTUS election .

He was a morality pulpit pounder politician like the days of old. Of course it was him being all hung up about sex. Even though his Lt. Guvner was far worse. Thank God he lost his gov. bid. Unfortunately he lost it to a schmuck in Terry McCauliffe.

As much as I disagree with Billy Graham he seemed to hold his crap together unlike many others in his position.

Would you be referring to Governor Ultrasound?

Of course if he committed a crime.

You mean easy.

It's a shame. As a resident of Virginia I opposed his original election as Governor but overtime was quite impressed with the job he did in office. I had hoped at one point he would venture into national politics following his term in Virginia, but I am quite disappointed with his actions. It's sad to see a smart and effective politician being indicted with such accusations. I guess my original view about the Governor was correct.

Agreed. This is disappointing. Such potential apparently undone by small time greed.

uncle billy had the same problem as bill clinton

and now his son, franklin, formerly the black sheep of the family, is a well compensated charlatan pretending to be an evangelist:
Islam is "a very evil and wicked religion."
"true Islam cannot be practiced in this country"
Islam "is a religion of hatred. It's a religion of war."
The Muslim Brotherhood is very strong and active in our country. It's infiltrated every level of our government. Right now we have many of these people that are advising the US military and State Department on how to respond in the Middle East, and it's like asking a fox, like a farmer asking a fox, "How do I protect my henhouse from foxes?" We've brought in Muslims to tell us how to make policy toward Muslim countries. And many of these people we've brought in, I'm afraid, are under the Muslim Brotherhood.
"President Obama has, in my view, shaken his fist at the same God who created and defined marriage. It grieves me that our president would now affirm same-sex marriage, though I believe it grieves God even more."

ole billy should have practiced better birth control

and unlike the subject of the thread, neither of these religious 'leaders' will ever have credit card problems

Like I said, I disagree very much with Billy Graham on many issues and such but my point was that he kept his Jimmy in his pants and the needles out of his veins.
