Growing is a continual process, the more intellect, IMO, the more time this takes, and its never over..
So, at age 50 ....agree to the death penalty....hanging or a firing squad.
At age 60...no, lifetime incarceration, only if a "sane" but emotional murder was committed.
70, the age 70, we must work on ways to prevent murder, to identify possible "nut cases"....no death penalty.
BTW, Mr Zimmer, the closing of minds has NOTHING TO DO with liberal or conservative.... its an intellectual/attitude thing.

No i do not.
As the once great Indian man once said "An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind"

I don't really need the latest update on horrible crimes to inform my unwavering opposition to the DP. It's not a cumulative thing, it's a moral thing.

some times under some conditions

No. It's not necessary for security.

It kinda takes the wind out of the argument if we show that killing is wrong... by killing.

Capital punishment sets a bad example.

If someone kills someone I love, I want them to sit alone in a room and think about it for the rest of their lives.

I'm not totally against the concept of putting down those who are simply animals who can't be allowed to roam the streets with the kids and old folks.

Determining who is beyond redemption is a whole 'nother thing.

But some are.

And it can cost upwards of $40k a year to house the bad boys.

The only time i believe that capital punishment is acceptable is for war criminals.. Thats it.

And, I believe, about $2 million for the entire proces to execute them. It's not a money thing really, is it?

I am a LIBERAL and I am a CHRISTIAN therefor I cannot agree with capital punishment. Would our Lord Jesus kill someone for punishment or would he forgive the person?

I disagree with the state being given the power to execute it's citizenry for any reason.

If the DP were adjusted so that the victim's families were in charge of the execution, and given the power to perform the execution themselves in an act of vengeance or allow the offender to serve a life sentence if they decide not to take vengeance, I would support it.

I'm against the death penalty.

Poll is barely up and already someone is screwing with the poll results. Why am I not surprised?

Yes I support the DP. Yes some innocents get caught up in it. I'm aware of this. Still support it.

It's 8 Yes, 12 No, as currently stands. Someone seems to be multiple voting in the No camp.

There are some crimes that demand the death penalty, and there are others many might think are the right crime for it but I think it's too got for the criminal.

I believe in the old way where the Judge would tell the convicted person they would be taken from the Court to a place of execution where they will be hanged by the neck until dead.

Needle in the arm, isn't scary worth a damn, and endless appeals is stupid, and make the death penalty no deterrent at all. Make it hurt and frightening.

I know that there have been a lot of people who have be wrongly convicted and some most likely put to death who were not guilty, and I lay that on the Judge not making it clear to the Jury what they are to do and what to consider, and bad Police

When Jesus takes over the day-to-day affairs of our state govt, I'll back him. Until then, we have to do the best with what we have.

No on the death penalty. Why?

A painless death is not a severe enough punishment for having perpetrated a brutal murder. A lifetime in a supermax is far worse.
It costs more to execute a criminal than it does to keep them in jail.

So far, over 200 convicted felons have been exonerated by the Innocence Project.

Therefore, the death penalty should be abolished.

I believe there are some people who need to be put down, just like you would a rabid dog. Humans are animals, and while we are more advanced than the other species on the planet, we are constantly reminded of how primitive we can be. Rape, cold blooded murder, sexual abuse of a child; these are just some of the offenses I would not have a problem using capital punishment for.

The caveat to this is I would require that the person we are going to put down be proven guilty by a unanimous jury of these most heinous crimes. There cannot be any doubt, or any circumstantial evidence used to convict.

Over 200 men have been exonerated after having been proven guilty by a unanimous jury.

Quite often, circumstantial evidence is more conclusive than witnesses are.

In theory, yes, under our present system no. Our present system finds innocent people guilty too easily. That is unacceptable. There always will be human error in judgment. I would rather see a guilty person go free, than an innocent person punished. If we punish the innocent, we become a criminal ourselves and deserving of at least a manslaughter charge. There is always street justice when there is private knowledge that cannot pass the rigorous test a judicial system uses in order to not become criminals themselves. What else could you expect from a court? This will lift some tax burden, and street justice tends to be a bit more frugal for the guilty. I like the idea of six years for murder too. If a person is innocent, they should still have some of their life left when they get out. If they are guilty, it's enough to teach a lesson and get things turned around.

If you bought a house from somebody and went to the closing and they gave you the keys and you drove to your new digs and entered and found the toilet was filled to overflowing with waste and was stinking up the house... what would you do?

How about flushing the damn toilet.

Why is it that when society recognizes six feet of stacked waste among us, we do not flush the toilet? In some states we spend 35, 40K or more to put a person in a maximum security prison. And we are cutting back on cops, firemen and teachers at the same time.

Everyone accused of a capital crime should get a lawyer and a damn good one. They should have a decent budget for investigation, research and expert witnesses. They should get the fairest and most complete trial in the history of the world. They should have a specialized appeals attorney to handle their appeal. And if they are convicted and if the jury decides on the death penalty and if their appeal fails when it is heard and all the issues raised before the court, fry their sorry ass. Flush the toilet for heavens sake.
