All the same arguments that are used to support the death penalty can be used to support this form of punishment.

Well, except for one major difference, with the death penalty (in the US anyway) it's not torture as putting acid in somebody's eyes would be.

not in our country. this amounts to another citizen on the dole, which doesn't occur with DP

Disfigured Woman Hails 'Eye-For-An-Eye' Blinding Of Attacker In Iran - Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty © 2011

I think the punishment assessed here is interesting, it truly is an "eye for an eye". Understanding, of course, that this would never happen in the US, do you think, given the crime, that this is an appropriate punishment? I'm not asking if this would be Constitutional in the US, clearly it would not. I'm more asking if this fits in with your personal perceptions of what a just or appropriate punishment would be. I'm torn myself, it sure seems barbaric but so was the attack on the lady and this would certainly put the attacker in the same situation as he put her in. So here's the poll question;

Should Man Who Attacked Woman with Acid Be Blinded by Acid as Punishment?

No, that only lowers those that administer justice to the same level as the criminal. Are you suggesting we should model our justice system on Iran's justice system?

No, definitely not. That's a major consideration that keeps me from committing to a vote on either side of this. However, if he was sentenced to die, I would support that without reservation. I see that as almost being more humane than blinding him with acid. I think I'd prefer death if I were him.
