I am not gonna sound very liberal here and some may view my thoughts bordering on hate but.. I feel if a pilot gets a bad gut (danger) feeling about someone? They should have the right to toss anybody off their aircraft
WRONG!
If the pilot or airline stewardesses have a problem with a paid passenger, they should notify security (if possible) and let them handle the unruly passenger. That said, the flight hadn't taken off, the passengers volunteerily subjected themselves to multiple screenings, they didn't resist in any fashion. The only thing that they were guilty of is being of the Muslim faith.
I understand some people's concerns in a post-9/11 world, but these men did nothing wrong and didn't deserve to be discriminated against. It would have been a completely different issue if they weren't cooperating or if airline security and discovered something suspecious in their luggage, but neither were the case. And before anyone says "the 9/11 hijackers weren't doing anything wrong either until they took over 3 commercial jetliners," our pre-flight security measures have changed significantly since the dreadful September morning. Our airline screening procedures are far more rigorous than they were before, and airline passengers can't board planes carrying liquids, unidentifiable solid substances or sharp objects anymore.
Now, if these two Imans were part of this ploy to get airlines to 'freak out' over Muslims flight on commercial planes in the US, then they've proven their point that xenophobia against Muslims men does exist in this country. It's the same type of bigotry that ran ramped in the 50's and 60's against Blacks only folks are turning around and walking the other way when they see a Black man walking down the street or locking their car doors. Instead, we're now booting Muslims off planes whether they cause trouble or not. I understand the anxiety pilots must feel, but when it's not warranted they hurt America's image of being a tolerant nation regardless of one's race, sex, nationality or religious belief.
