If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life.....

Where would you choose to live?

Cities piss me off because everyone walks too slow, and they don't watch where they're going, and expect me to apologise when the run into me and just bounce off, and there are signs hanging down that I have to duck under, and the communists handing out pamphlets get pissed off when you point out the contradictions in their views, and cities smell. The only bonuses are the food and the Asian chicks in tight jeans.

I couldn't imagine anything better, most people annoy the **** outta me, and plus when the rural area I like has places like this:

Why the hell wouldn't I.

I look at that and see a whole bunch of nothing.

Re: If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life...

Give me a large city with lots of people where people are out walking at all times of the day ( and where you can do the same by walking out of your door without having to drive for 30 minutes)

Re: If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life...

I like the rural better. Small towns are/were great. They exuded true community values. Cities have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people all living within close proximity of each other, yet they are totally disconnected from each other.

I see a stick and a pond and a couple of little hills. Paradise!

How about this?

I see a lack of places to go to eat, a lack of entertainment venues, etc.

I want a house right here:

Re: If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life...

I look at that and see a whole bunch of nothing.

I look at it and see a place to fish, a place to ride horses or 4wheelers or dirtbikes, room for a shooting range, hunting, room to breathe, privacy, beautiful trees and mountains in the distance, a place to keep horses or cattle and crops... I like.

I grew up in the country, lived in the city a while and decided I didn't like it. No privacy, annoying neighbors, traffic from hell, no peace and quiet, traffic from hell, too many people obsessed with status and style and superficialities, traffic from hell, no room to do many of the things I like to do, traffic from hell, too many laws and rules and nosy busybodies, and did I mention: traffic from hell?

I'll take the country thanks. I'm GLAD so many of you prefer the city... more room for me.

Looks to me like the reason for wanting one there would disappear if you were allowed to build one.

In the city of Grand Rapids MI.

All of those are display areas for the Grand Rapids ArtPrize contest.

All of this not more than 10 minutes from fine dining, theater, several museums, lots of shopping.

Everyone knows what a 4 way STOP is right?

4way Stop in the city: Everybody tries to go first. Horns blare, tires squeal, curses are screamed, fingers are extended. After 15 crashes in a week, the city gives up and puts in a traffic light.

4way Stop in the country: Two pickups, one tractor-trailer, and a station wagon all sit at the stop for over a minute, waving each other on, trying to be the most patient and polite. Finally everyone makes the grey-haired lady go first.

Rural, hands down.

I love living in the country.
City blows, to much traffic, to many people, I prefer quiet solitude.

Oh, I like to VISIT the city. I live within a day-trip of Atlanta, GA. LOVE their zoo, aquarium, museums, restaurants, etc.

Don't want to LIVE there tho... too many people jammed in too tight. Sardines.

How are the job prospects in the rural area?

We'll just use that mass transit to get to work.

Re: If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life...

I've lived in rural area's all my life, and I'd much rather be in a city.

Get back to us once you've tried it for a while. :)

You have not mentioned this before.

Barb, I have done both. I prefer the city to the country, and suburbia is hands down better than either. Some people really do prefer urban living, and for very valid reasons.

I haven't? Hm, maybe not. That's right, you live near Atlanta don't you? Maybe the next time me and the boy go down there we'll have to meet for dinner or something. :)

I have done both, more in the country than in the city, and without question I would be perfectly happy never living in the country again. It was far to boring and quiet for me.

Re: If you had to choose one of these two places to live for the rest of your life...

I used to live on 40acres +/-, had a 4-5 acre seasonal pond, garden, room for chickens and turkeys, that all backed up to some thick woods.
Man do I miss it.

Now I live in a townhouse complex, with about 20 neighbors, all within approximately 100ft of me.

:sigh:

I feel buried alive in the suburbs.

♪ New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue. ♫

I disagree, I can't help but find that the city and suburbs are suffocating my creativeness.

You need to be more specific: I said nothing about creativity, what exactly do you disagree with?

Living in the city, to protect the wooded areas.

There is a still a lot to explore and discover, even in our known wooded areas.
When I lived on my land I made sure to keep it as clean as possible but some people need wide open spaces.
