What would you prefer for your children, conservative or liberal K-12 Education in public schools?Do not forget that after liberal "education" in public schools many children are illiterate and know nothing. BTW most of wealthy people ( democrats and liberals too ) send their children only to conservative schools. Please explain your choice and do not forget that too liberal "education" in public schools has downgraded America to one of the lowest places among other western countries.

as it is currently structured in the United States it is very much a product of the Left. decision making authority is placed in the hands of government technocrats who are unionized and protected from public pressure. people pay irrespective of consumption.

Mitch Daniels in Indiana, meanwhile, has just shifted education more "right" ward by utilizing a voucher system to put decision making authority more into the hands of the consumers, who will pay extra if they wish to consume extra.

It is clearly a better way as so-called "liberal education" which has destroyed the American Education System. Thanks Liberals kids know everything about sex, drugs, music, dancing,alcohol, marijuana etc. , but nothing about math, writing or physics.

What kinda of school did you go to because I came out and knew a large amount about the three topics you mentioned and then some and I went to a public school.

well, the question becomes: what is the justifying purpose of having the state take money from people in order to set up an educational system. if it is to produce an educated citizenry capable of competently executing it's self-governing duties and maintaining a decently high level of production.... then you have to ask at what point the return on the humanities justifies further investment.

frankly, i don't even think it should be a decision the state should be making; the role of the state should properly be to establish necessary minimimums tied to the two intents discussed above, and then let parents free to decide on the specifics.

A broad base of knowledge is very necessary for a person to be properly education and have enough of an information base to draw from in order to approach a new subject, in my opinion.

i'm a massive fan of what's called the "liberal arts" education. I went to a liberal arts college and I think that i benefited very much indeed from being exposed to a wide range of subjects. but that is my belief system and my intellectual bent. plenty of Americans don't care to learn about the beauties of the Baroque era Fugue, but would benefit more instead from learning how to be a welder or master mechanic. this ought to be an option that is open to them, just as the liberal arts option should be available to those who would take advantage of it. parents know their children best, and should be able to direct their children accordingly.

It's pretty simple. Teach kids that they have a responsibility to everyone other than themselves, that they shouldn't question authority, and that their leaders are smarter than they are. That their individual rights aren't worth a hill of beans, and that they should shut up and do what they're told. That's neither Liberal nor Conservative, but it's being taught right now.
 
One would think that learning the alphabet or the multiplication table was neither liberal nor conservative but then we remember that liberals don't want those darned tests. You know, paper and pencil tests where they demonstrate they've learned the subject. Liberals prefer creativity like 6x6=54. "Very good answer, Johnny."

Alfons there's still time to get a real education, I know you went to a liberal school in your youth which is why you use the wrong word sometimes or fail to make the subject and verb agree in your sentances, along with a host of other problems. But, what you need to remember is that we all start somewhere and its not where we start its where we end up!

For the record, standardized tests have become a joke. I have no problem with a subject test, but these yearly exams students must take to prove they meet state requirements have led teachers to do nothing but teach how to pass the test, since their pay raises rely heavily on student success. These ridiculous programs are hindering learning.

gosh if only there were some way that the government could allow you to control the education dollars allotted to your child so that you could direct them to a school that had neither...... what would we call such a system?

I always see people say this, but I never see anyone demonstrate it. What precisely are you referencing?

going to a private school.
 
I didn't realize there was a difference in public schools. Public schools are run by the government and in turn run by one people...there is no conservative or liberal its merely government run indoctrination centers...children don't go to school to learn they are now merely pawns in a game of life and death that most people have not woken up to.

Twelve years in the public education system in Texas, coupled with 3 years of internships and observations during college. In Texas, teacher pay is heavily based on the percentage of children who pass the TAKS test every year, with only about 30% of their performance dependent upon student success on general coursework.

As a student we spent August-April preparing for the TAKS (formerly TAAS) test. During that time at least 50% of our day was focused on test taking strategies, practice tests, and "tricks" to help us answer questions we don't know the answers to. We were taught how to write to please those grading that portion (and graders were often not educators, or those with any education background to speak of...they requested volunteers to save money).
