Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'd like to see Julian Bond imprisoned for life, at hard labor, preferably somewhere in the Arctic Circle. Just say'n...........................

I repeat that ACLU to 99% fights against white conservatives and Christianity!

Didnt the ACLU defend Westboro Baptist Church in their right to protest?

This is the American Communist Lovers United (ACLU) right?

They worse than suck they are anti-American.

Civil liberties are so unamerican, I know what you mean.

I very much dislike the ACLU. A minority of their cases I like, but they are typically trolls in my opinion.

They stole the Mojave Desert Cross (or inspired someone to do it). ACLU blows.

Is it still there? Who wanted it removed?

What's ironic is that the park is barring the elderly couple from putting up a replacement until the court ruling is finished. So essentially the vandals and immature "offended" individuals have won. It makes me sick.

*now a comment relevent to the thread*
One reason I very much dislike the ACLU is that they plead the case of militant atheists who get "offended" that a cross or something like that has been in a public place for 70+ years and they want to see it removed when it obviously isn't hurting anyone or trampling on freedoms.

So that would be a no, you cannot prove it, nor do you even have any actual evidence that your charge is accurate. There are many people with more than one motive who could have done it.

over the years It has become obvious to me that the goal of the ACLU is to push rights that can be used to undermine the values this country was based upon while ignoring rights that tend to preserve our traditional freedoms.

The ACLU has been hostile to gun rights which is a bulwark against an oppressive socialist form of government. the ACLU has not supported the right of association-for example it came out against the boy scouts limiting its scoutmasters to straight males and the ACLU has never supported the right of a country club to limit its voting membership to males. Those are all contrary to the right of association-which of course includes the right to not associate

I also note that 70% or so of the ACLU membership considers its self far left or progressive suggesting that pushing left wing agendas is a motive of this group

I do note that some local chapters of the ACLU tend to support constitutional rights of all stripes and those chapters are to be admired.

Redress, that cross was in the middle of the ****in' desert. It had been there 70 years and only once the ACLU made a federal case of it (literally) was the cross first covered then, when the cross was going to be allowed to remain, it was stolen. Doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to put those pieces together.

I attended a meeting to organize an ACLU chapter in our town and I asked a question. Free speech used to be the hallmark of the ACLU. For me, Skokie, Illinois, was great because they stood up for free speech. So, I asked about free speech and was treated to a short lecture about how much they love free speech. Then I asked about "hate" speech. Oh, that's different. Damn right it is. That's speech the government doesn't like and the ACLU will not buck a socialist government.

The ACLU asked me once to help author a pamphlet for local distribution on peoples rights in dealing with the police. I agree to help with the pamphlet if they would agree to expand it to rights and responsibilities. No, they weren't interested in responsibilities.

The ACLU can do their thing. I won't help fund them and I don't want the government funding them like they do with NPR or funding them under the table like they did with ACORN.

Just because they condemn both right and left wing does not make them communist..

You accusations are completely without merit. The national media attention means that all sorts of people took an interest in that cross. It could have been compeltely separate political group who wanted the cross taken down or scrap metal thieves. I don't agree with the ACLU's choice to go after the cross, but one shouldn't throw around accusations without evidence.

Did the ACLU condemn the theft or make a plea for it's return?

The defended the Westboro Baptist Church on several occasions. Was that a great service?

Yes. Didn't most of us agree with the Supreme Court Decision that even offensive speech should be protected?

Protecting the first amendment rights.... Is that a great service? The right to freedom of speech. In my opinion yea that is a great service...

Rathi beat me to it. The case drew national attention, something it had not had beforehand. You have presented a grand total of zero evidence to back your case. Sherlock would be laughing at your case.

What exactly does this have to do with anything? I have not condemned the theft nor made a plea for it's return either. Am I now a suspect? Logic, it's a good thing to use before you post.

They have defended people's constitutional rights, even when it was hard to do. Those bastards!
