Should people in jail have to pay for their incarceration if they have the means?

You want to say that government won't put people away if they can profit. We have the HIGHEST incarceration rate of all the industrialized countries. 1/5 adults will be in jail at some point. You didn't do anything for your case.

You can talk about entitlement, but I'm not the one that feels entitled to another man's property if said individual broke the law. Before you run off at your mouth you may want to spend some time and think about what you're saying. I know it's hard man, but you should do it as a matter of practice. 1. It does not matter what the incarceration rate is vs. other countries. We have our laws, they have theirs and we are not going to follow their lead. It's never happened (with the exception of Democracy and France) and it never will happen.

2. Your yelling I haven't answered your question. Answer the one question everyone has been asking you. How is charging an inmate rent a form of theft? Please, answer the question. You keep ranting on and on that it's using force and refusing any argument we make while you stand on your beer cooler, so tell us in a coherent manner what it is that makes it theft.

3. Next up, why do you think we should support inmates? Yes, through due process of the law they are in prison "AFTER" committing a crime that landed them in prison. So why should we support them? Because they are a ward of the state? I personally beg to differ. In all reality they made a decision, in my opinion, that landed them in prison as a result of their consequences.

4. To go after someone who breaks into your house via a civil court is stealing how? If it was theft wouldn't they be able to file a police report on it? You call this greed, why? Because someone had to pay for their actions? Were you there? Did you see the fight that ensued in an attempt to get them back out of my house? It's called personal injury and punitive damages. Why can you not get this? They broke into the house with the intention of stealing from me. That means they intended to deprive me of that which was rightfully mine, my wife's and my children's. All I did was defend my home and then drag them into a court room and demonstrate for them how it feels. Call it greed if you want, I don't care. Call it revenge if you want. Guess what: Revenge is a dish best served cold over an extremely long meal and I served it very cold and the meal was extremely long. 8 years in prison for each of them, 2 years in civil court motions and trial, 1 year and a half with the court taking the houses, cars, bank accounts and most other things of value. I'd say that was a very long meal. Call it whatever you want. I call it justice. So would many others.

Tell ya what Ikari, I'm going to start another thread that will offer a different solution to this problem of funding prisons since you seem to think that charging inmates rent is a form of theft. I bet you don't like this one either. No, I'm not going to suggest executions or conscious body part transplants. Though I do love the 2nd option.

Just do us one favor: Answer one question in a coherent manner, that actually details out your answer in a manner most will be able to follow. Even a right wing conservative like myself, you leftist liberal you.

No. What happened to equality before the law all of the sudden? Siezing legally acquired assets would be double punishment. And unfair punishment.

SB! Thanks for the greeting. I've been in behavioral hospital. (It was that or prison, so I told them I heard voices and they bought it!) A little more costly room and board-wise, but I had dayroom privleges on the community PC. I had to post under another name, but I'm back home now.
