Id support letting us who want to get our money back and not have to be part of this unconstitutional ponzi scheme

means tested is a violation of this ponzi scheme

I agree with Stillballin that the options are too restrictive. I would say that anyone should get back what they paid in over the years, but after that, I would support means testing...

but the idea you just endorsed punishes the most productive members of society and rewards the slackers. That goes against everything you have ever pontificated about here.

this is really stupid. how so? why shouldn't smart productive people be able to get out of this government forced ponzi scheme

its the slackers, sloths, parasites and union slugs who want to use the ponzi scheme as another income redistributionist tool for the dems

Yes, I am in favor of means-testing Social Security and raising the retirement age.

Social Security should be a program purely for those who don't make enough money to save for retirement themselves, so that if they become incapable of working, they won't be left helpless.

But the government should run it. I trust the government to make fairer and more informed decisions than private companies.

Who supports means testing for paying social security taxes? That means the rich don't pay any.

:lamo :lamo :lamo

:crying::lol:..... thanks..... i needed that.... :D

Yes, I would support means testing... but not for people making just above poverty level. There are millions of retirees who have pensions at 70%-80% of their highest year's salary, millions with pensions of more than $150,000 a year. Do they need social security benefits to pay the bills? I don't think so. Right now, even multi-millionaires are given SS benefits that are nothing more than chump change to them. Wealthy retirees should be screened out, in my opinon, but seniors trying to exist on $35,000-$45,000 a year are not wealthy retirees. They are folks who are subsidizing their annual $12,000 SS benefits by drawing down their retirement savings just to survive.

I don't trust either. Don't know what other choices we'd have though.

you do understand that

1) that social security never would have passed even the FDR controlled congress if it was another income redistribution scheme

2) why should wealthy people who pay most of the taxes have this scheme be yet another income redistribution scheme and violate their contractual rights

3) if people cannot get benefits from this crap why should they be forced to support it

It is also a complete betrayal of every libertarian who rails about the sainted principles of the contract.

But that would not be you. Principles and your own self interest of greed have nothing in common at all.

Means testing would strip SS benefits or reduce them for people who have saved and prepared for retirement - ie: the very thing that conservatives and right wingers like you foam at the mouth about that they should have been doing forever now. It rewards those who have not prepared for retirement by giving them the benefits promised to all and rewards the very folks that you constanly spew vitriol and venom at and about.

So its quite a giant hypocrisy sandwich you have bitten into turtle. Three decker at least. I suspect it will not go down too easy.

I find it amusing that you whine about greed when you think you and your dem masters are entitled to what others earn

I oppose social security as violating the tenth amendment
I oppose making people pay into that ponzi scheme

but once they have had that money taken from them for this ponzi scheme, they have a right to it

so how is that hypocrisy in a rational world?

and tell me Haymarket, why should people be forced to contribute to that nonsense

actually the Supreme Court has ruled that you have no right to social security benefits; so the "contract" line is incorrect.

If Social Security benefits were means tested, it would turned it into a welfare program and it would disappear. Social Serurity is fine; all that is needed is to raise the cap more. That's what President Reagan did in 1983.

I wonder if the congress would have passed that crap if they knew that was coming. I suspect not

meaning the more you pay the more you get back

BTW I am against means testing

You should continue to push that line of reasoning and so should your party. Trumpet it from the highest peaks and make it the centerpiece of the 2012 elections. tell the American people there is no contract for Social Security despite they having paid into it and fulfilled their end of hte bargain for their entire working lives.

I would love to see that.

It has become part of the American social contract between a citizen and their government.

I agree with you.

Anyone who does not want to be part of Social Security can withdraw from it at any time. There is no Berlin Wall confining you here.

Great news, we can dump the whole program and put our money in investments, right? I want my money back.

LOL-its like saying the Income tax is "voluntary"

And that is probably the only thing that the Democrat Party thanks God for.

Every day you live here is voluntary.
every day you know the laws and the rules and the programs and you stay here just the same is voluntary.
