I got to thinking about the places from my childhood that are no longer around. As far as I know there is only one drive-in movie in the state of Maryland left. To find a Mom-Pop icecream place I have to go about 15 miles. Only one bowling alley neighborhood and the local skating rink closed down years ago.

So within lets say 10 miles / 15 KM of your home are any of these still around.

1. drive-in movie
2. Mom-Pop icecream place ( not corporate, no Friendly / baskin robbins)
3. bowling alley
4. skating rink
5. Others

The closest drive-in movie is about 25 miles away (I had to look it up). I've never been though. I'd much rather watch in a theater with stadium seating, surround sound and no bugs.

There's one of those dairy-queen style soft-serve mom and pop ice cream places about 3 miles away. Never been there either.

The closest bowling alley is about 5 miles, and my wife and I go there semi-regularly.

The closest ice skating rink is abut 8 miles and the closest roller skating rink is about 6. I've never been to either one.

The nearest drive-in is about 40k's away, the ice cream shop closed down last year (I was pissed off, they had the best rum 'n' raisin ice cream), there's a bowling alley close by, but ice skating isn't really a big thing in Australia, for the life of me can't figure out why. But there's a rink about 30k's away that opened recently.

My home town when I grew up had a place called Miller's Ice Cream. It was a diner/ice cream parlor and it was godly. 50 flavors of hard serve ice cream, a two scoop cone was more like about 5 scoops, malts where made with actual ice cream and where so big and thick you never could actually finish it, and the food was so greasy that today they would probably be required to put warning labels on it. That was the best place ever.

Edit: note to self: read the poll question before answering, don't assume. I answered wrong, none of those near me.

We have an awesome bowling alley called "Rock N Bowl." A live band entertains you while you bowl. And they have good food.'

Tom Cruise hung out there while filming Interview.
