Come on, Chappy. Give us a bit more to go on. Define "evil" or at least tell us what you are focusing on.

Lets see, I'm a gay, Christian southern white woman. Someone probably thinks I'm evil

I think it is asking about your own conception of evil, not societies, or other peoples.

I'm somewhere between the four points of Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, and True Neutral.

In seriousness, we're all somewhat evil.

Come on, Chappy. Give us a bit more to go on. Define "evil" or at least tell us what you are focusing on.

1. Did you ever try to escape being blamed for something that was your fault? That is, did you try to escape fairness and justice? Did you ever take more than your fair share? People tend to be more sympathetic with themselves and their own limitations than others.

2. Did you try to manipulate other people into doing something that served your purposes, but no greater good? Did you exploit people's feelings of love for you to get more out of them? Happens with everybody.

3. Did you ever support or half-believe something you knew was untrue to further your goals? That is, did you ever deceive someone, or worse, deceive yourself? Common in politics.

4. Did you take out your temper on someone who didn't deserve it because you wanted to indulge in your passions and they made for a convenient scapegoat? Common in marriages, or other relationships where people can't easily escape from you and your tyrannical narcissism.

Etc.

I voted yes. That in itself makes me evil.

That almost seems like a paradox, though. Would one who is evil identify that as evil?

Oh, I consider that non-evil, right up until the first totally uncalled for frag.

It's all anonymous.

What's the point of having an anonymous poll if you want to have a discussion about whether each person thinks they are evil or not? :rofl

I rather consider that to be a prerequisite of being evil: knowing that you are evil.

Which leads back to my original question: define evil.

And thinking about this further, what you said doesn't seem logical. Are you saying that if you do not self-identify as evil, you cannot be?

If you ask my ex-husbands, they would think I was evil lol

Did I ask the question of whether you were logical? No. I asked whether you are evil. And, to be truly evil, I think you have to think of yourself as evil. But, that's me and I don't think I'm evil (for the most part).

By that definition, almost no one would qualify as evil. Even monsters like Hitler or Stalin believed their actions were justified and would not have considered themselves evil.

Fair enough, but, we must start somewhere, yes?

I believe in duality.

Good and evil exist within us all. To deny otherwise is to deny your humanity.

This is what I was getting at, but I tried to not commit Godwin's Law. I suppose, in this context, you didn't.

I agree. But Psychoclown's point is identical to mine. The starting point for any discussion like this is the definition. Unless you are saying that evil is individually relative... which would mean that nothing is evil.

Evil isn't that hard to figure out. People have free wills, life, and a capacity for happiness. Anybody who subverts those thing does evil. Manipulating and deceiving other people undermines their free will. Hurting, intimidating, or killing them does injury to their life. Depriving them of good things and opportunities takes away their happiness.

haha true. But i think every person can recognize what is evil about them, but it could be up to them whether that actually means they are evil.

like, are we evil because we do some evil things, or are we evil if we do a LOT of evil things, or are we evil for only doing one evil thing. that could be a matter of opinion that isn't a paradox.
