I have no problem with her saying her child is black as that is probably gonna be how the world at large may label her child. My problem is her use of the term the one-drop theory.

Does that not go back to like the slave days and is it really necessary to have that kind of thinking when it is the year 2011?

Imo each individual has the absolute right to choose his or her identity. Halle Berry is half white and half black. She has chosen an African American identity. No problem.

Halle Berry's daughter is three fourths white and one quarter black. Halle Berry will influence her daughter's choice of identity; however, in the final analysis her daughter will choose her own identity.

I can tell you from first hand experience that parents do not have the final say on identity. Moreover, factors outside the parents' control influence the child's choice.
 
So many people are of mixed derivation that we shouldn't even really be talking about this anymore. I am mostly Norman/Breton French with some Canadian First-Nations and my wife is primarily Minnan/Han Chinese with some Taiwanese aboriginal ancestry... What does that make my children? A human mix of many ethnicities and races... that something that is becoming more and more common and something that societies around the world are coming to grip with in different ways, including here in Taiwan.
 
Is there anyone on the planet these days that doesnt have some mixed race in them? Anywhere?

And where are all these people that are saying (and I quote) "Kill Obama the nigger"???? Who the hell do you hang out with, man??? Seriously!

So...no mixed races? Hispanic as in Spanish or Hispanic as in from mehico? Im like...1/16th mixed...my mothers grandfather. I'm not sure...I THINK that qualifies me for reparations!
 
I think Halle Berry has some issues. If I'm not mistaken, I think this isn't the first time she's made a comment that could be construed as, um, "racially controversial".

You are correct. Girl does have issues and I hope she gets the help she needs.

It is not just race as she has said some out there stuff on several things and some are saying that this may be the straw that breaks her back in reguards to her sometimes strange ideas she tries to keep on the downlow. Guess we will see.

So did you feel it racist?

But most Hispanics ARE mixed race as most are Mestizos...
 
OK...so wait a second...why doesnt the reverse apply? Why isnt it seen that if you have even a drop of white blood you are white? (I know I know...I think the one drop idea is a stupid POV myslef...Im not suggesting it SHOULD be the case)

Well, the "one drop rule" was originally a racist policy intended to keep mixed-race persons as 2nd class citizens. Halle's apparent endorsement of same is certainly controversial; it could be viewed as racist; but it's apparent genesis is her current divorce problems and it might be an argument of convenience.

Either way, she certainly seems to have some issues that need resolutions.
 
Then I must be fully Aztec, Norweigan, Spanish, Mexican, French, Cherokee, Mayan, etc.... all at the same time.

That's just ridiculous... Berry's mom is WHITE, so Berry right there is mixed, half white half black. Then she hooks up with a white guys, so doesn't that make the kid something like 75% white, if anything? So, blacks can claim the one-drop rule was a racist thing, then they follow it themselves.
 
The one drop rule should either be eradicated, or it should apply to all, lest those who support the rule be deemd racist because they hold one race above all others.
 
Race should be eradicated. It is an antiquated and superstitious concept that has no place in an enlightened society.

It's good to know where your people came from. But vague notions of race are no substitute for your family history, and when your race separates you from your neighbors, it's time to discard it.

Not to mention all those other drops in there. I've been accused of being a Neanderthal enough times to figure I got a drop or two of that race too. Asian Neanderthals, Humans Mated : Discovery News
