Dogs Vs. Cats

Dogs or Cats. Which Is Better?

I like both. We have both cats and dogs.

Dogs are more useful than cats. They can be trained to do useful work. They bark at strangers, and I can tell when they're "just barking" vs they actually see something alarming. They are more loyal and devoted. A dog is always happy to see you.

Cats are a bit different. They're more independent. If they like you they may well greet you on your return with a snuggle against your ankle, but sometimes they're not in a mood to be bothered. They do their own thing, and while they're happy to interact with you when your intrests converge, they're okay with walking off alone if you don't feel like hunting mice today.

Dogs are more slave-like. That makes them useful, but I kind of feel it makes them less individuals.

All cats are emphatically individuals. They're more like friends than pets: you hang out sometimes, but you also part and do your own things too. As long as you're having fun together they're cool with it, but they won't tolerate being annoyed, ignored, or mistreated for too long. In a sense, they're more like "real people" than dogs. They'll be your friend but they won't put up with your ****.

In a survival situation I'd much rather have a dog, because of their utility. Otherwise, I prefer the independent personality of cats.

Then there are times I could cheerfully kill the lot of them, when the dogs have strewn trash across the yard and the cats have clawed the last roll of toilet paper to shreds....

I had a cat gave birth to some kittens(laying next to me as I was asleep till she started to yowl). One of the kittens when it got old enough to start running would climb the bed, run from the foot of the bed all out until she ran full speed into the headboard, would cry for a second, get up, run full out the other way until the flew off the end of the bed, cry, get up and start the process again. I named her Dopey.

She never did entirely get over it. She was scared to death of my brother, and when he would see her and start towards her she would take off running, hit a wall, take off again, bounce off his leg, run into the wall again, and then be caught.

I had a cat years ago that did that kind of thing. I don't think she ever got the concept of glass doors, she used to climb up on a table, leap at the glass door, slam into it, lay on the ground for a minute or two, then go back and do it again over and over. The cat was seriously brain damaged.

The ideal is to get a cat that thinks its a dog. I had one of those once, it was the best. Friendly like a dog (e.g., it would actually come when called, and liked to be held), and able to take care of itself like a cat (e.g., no walks, etc.)

Forced to pick one I go with the dog everytime.

Now there are many pros and cons to cats/dogs and many listed here arent always true for each animal and where you live would matter.

For example my Uncle has a couple acres, he doesn't have to take care of his dog (walks and bathroom). They have a series of two dog doors where the dog comes and goes as it pleases.

Some cats do listen, do tricks and even play fetch.

Its a trade off for what you feel like doing and how smart or dumb an animal you get.

Myself the smartest one I have had was a dog. A white German Shepard and it was the smartest dog I have ever encountered in my life. It has me ruined because every dog I have after him will seem dumb.

Also another thing people said, dogs do bring you home things. My dog used to bring home groundhogs all the time for "daddy" lol

He also brought me home a rake, told you, smart dog. I know that SEEMS dumb, but the thing was, it was identical to the one I owned. He saw it and thought "hey thats daddys" and brought the damn thing home LOL

Cats obviously.

Plus, I don't go into a sneezing frenzy when I'm within 10 feet of a cat.

As far as liking goes, I like both. Both are beautiful, awesome animals. As far as owning one goes, I could never handle the neediness of a dog. I have enough trouble with people's neediness as it is. So, I vote for the aloof, independent kitties.

what are you trying to say?

conservatives prefer dogs because, like dogs, they are blindly loyal and a bit on the slow side

and

liberals prefer cats because, like cats, they think they are better than everyone else?

I have 2 dogs and 0 cats. What does that make me?

I have 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 4 horses. what does that make me? a liberally conservative horses ass?

Just testing the notion that dog owners tend to be more conservative than cat owners.

Just testing the notion that dog owners tend to be more conservative than cat owners.

The results are not scientific in any way. The difference is only by 1 or 2 people with a very small sample group.

I would say this is not a good example even if interesting.

Dogs by far. Cats are with you because they directly benefit, they don't really care about you. Dogs genuinely want to be with you, they stay with you not only because they benefit, but because they actually enjoy your company. Cats want attention. Dogs want company.

This is my father said until he lived with my cats. :) He now is a huge cat fanatic!

I prefer dogs, myself. I have two huge Labradors... so I like the bigger breed of dogs.

I've had cats... I prefer dogs.

Cats. Intelligent, playful, and they never hump your leg :2razz:
