I know he will, what do you think?

No. Now step away from the TV. FauxNews makes Solace a dull boy. Very few people buy that crap. No need on trying to keep selling it.

weee, I never get tired of seeing someone think they are clever when using FauxNews instead of FOXNews. :lamo lame, tired and generally played out.

That said, Obama isn't a socialist, he is a Barackist. It's all about Numero Uno baby.

Look at his healthcare reform and everything else that he does. He calls himself a Democrat, but he's actually a socialist.

Health care reform mandates people buy private health insurance = not socialism :prof

I'm just going to poop this here.

"If one complains that the system of economic and social organization which is based on private property in the means of production does not sufficiently consider the interests of the community, that it serves only the purpose of a single strata, and that it limits productivity; and if therefore one demands with the supporters of the various "social-political" and "social-reform" movements, state interference in all fields of economic life, then one has fundamentally accepted the principle of the socialist programme"- Ludwig von Mises

Singlepayer IS socialist.

What he "wants" isn't in the health care bill :prof

Try to keep up.

Perhaps not, but since it is what he wants and believes in, then it makes him a socialist.

Also, if your going to try and put a face to the beginning of major government intervention in the economy it would be FDR.

It's good to look at his own words. I prefer more complete quotes:

If I were designing a system from scratch, I would probably go ahead with a single-payer system...

Given that a lot of people work for insurance companies, a lot of people work for HMOs. You’ve got a whole system of institutions that have been set up. Why not single payer?

People don’t have time to wait. They need relief now. So my attitude is let’s build up the system we got, let’s make it more efficient, we may be over time—as we make the system more efficient and everybody’s covered—decide that there are other ways for us to provide care more effectively.

Perhaps not, but since it is what he wants and believes in, then it makes him a socialist.

That's not what this thread is about :prof you should know its your own thread.

Will Obama go down in history as the president who made America socialist?

That's the question you posed, not whether Obama is socialist or not.

Hint: He's not.

The answer is NO. FDR beat him to it.

When were those words spoken?
Obama says a lot of things depending on who he is talking to at the time.

Solace: the gift that just keeps on giving...

:rofl

We need to make that into an award I swear - ricks and solace can contend for that one. Only I think Ricks would be proud.

Same - same

Also, if your going to try and put a face to the beginning of major government intervention in the economy it would be FDR.
I'd agree with this, not just the economy either.

Actually he is quite consistent on this. The quote I gave was from August 2008 in New Mexico at a campaign stop(Obama Touts Single-Payer System for Health Care - Washington Wire - WSJ), or in other words, 5 years after the youtube video and what he was actually campaigning on. Since then he has continued in the exact same theme:Campaigning on Single Payer? | FactCheck.org

If I were starting a system from scratch, then I think that the idea of moving towards a single-payer system could very well make sense. That’s the kind of system that you have in most industrialized countries around the world.

The only problem is that we’re not starting from scratch. We have historically a tradition of employer-based health care. And although there are a lot of people who are not satisfied with their health care, the truth is, is that the vast majority of people currently get health care from their employers and you’ve got this system that’s already in place. We don’t want a huge disruption as we go into health care reform where suddenly we’re trying to completely reinvent one-sixth of the economy.

So what I’ve said is, let’s set up a system where if you already have health care through your employer and you’re happy with it, you don’t have to change doctors, you don’t have to change plans — nothing changes. If you don’t have health care or you’re highly unsatisfied with your health care, then let’s give you choices, let’s give you options, including a public plan that you could enroll in and sign up for. That’s been my proposal.

You're right.
Obama will go down in history as the president who almost transformed America into a complete nanny state.
Conservatives to the rescue!:sword:

It doesn't matter if he actually is socialist or not. The question is will he go down in history as the man who made America socialist. The general population thinks of him as socialist.

:doh

Your version of events is most interesting. Since there was no danger of socialism in the first place.

The worse there would have been, would have been a public option, a bit of competition to the insurance companies. And we all know that competition is bad :coffeepap
