Can you tell us why in your opinion oppresive conservative governments die out so often? China is a conservative oppressive country. It's thriving.

China is about as socially liberalized as you can get for a country which was killing people at Tianamen a few decades ago. Remember, we're discussing SOCIAL conservatives( Look at the OP). To claim China is 'conservative' is to ignore the fact that it has actually become more liberal in the last 30 years. It's about as honest as calling it 'communist'. It's a simple fact, a society has 3 choices when it is socially conservative:

1. Liberalize
2. Die out
3. Implode

What makes you think the Chinese are socially liberal?

The growing acceptance of capitalism in China has allowed Chinese society to become more socially liberated. 30 years ago homosexuality in China could mean an automatic death sentence. Today, there are signs which homosexuality has become accepted within Chinese society as gay bars are now run in most major chinese cities. Likewise there are active protests against the established government by liberal activists. Something which would have seemed unthinkable during the 60s. Those are just some example of the liberalization of Chinese society. It is the political elite which have yet to catch up to the progress being made by the rest of the country.

Interesting. Capitalism as a liberating influence?

Chinese society remains deeply prejudiced against lgbt people. But maybe you're right about the major cities.

Political change in China only happens to the extent the Party permits it.

... Population growth makes the social policies of Western conservatives untenable. The last 70 years of social history in the west have proven this.

Just the opposite, more population on the social nipple cannot continue.

If there was such a thing as Completely Conservative, or completely liberal there might be an answer.

But thankfully, outside of these cyber walls most people

A: DO NOT CARE.
B: Are not nearly as dogmatic as some here.

In short, even if you did have a "Conservative" society, some conservatives would be more conservative then others ;)
