Question for our gay members

I would not join the army if the ban was lifted (short of a draft). However, I would donate blood frequently if that restriction was lifted.

I am a thinker, not a fighter. ;)

Military needs thinkers too! You don't think those college educated pilots can actually fix the things they break do you?

War fighters have to think, to increase their chances of survival on the battlefield.

I would actually be serving now if I were not bipolar.

So you don't donate now to those fighting on the front lines because you disagree with the administrations policy?

No offense, that is only half a man in my book. One should be well rounded in all aspects of life.

He might be honest about his sexuality when asked.

I donate blood every couple of weeks or so, I have never been asked about my sexuality..... Though the Good Reverend is often proposition by the hot nurse techs....

I didn't know there was a gay test for blood donations. Perhaps you have alink?

Yes, gay people can't donate blood because it is deemed that we are at a higher risk for HIV. Unless we lie, we can't donate blood.

What??? Like I had said, I have never been asked about who I pork, and it never was an issue, do you have a link?

Check with the Red Cross...for starters. Military service disqualified me from donating blood as well (O-neg...and an every 6 week contributor for most of my adult life until the first Gulf War, service in England, Anthrax vaccines, etc...).

I used to donate regularly and I have never been asked about my sexual preference. the only thing that comes close is one question where they ask if you have had sex with someone for money or had sex with someone who had sex for money.

Unfortunately, I can no longer donate. apparently my blood now contains antibodies against HEP-B and it gives a false positive for HEP on the initial screening. All the blood collection agencies have told me it is not worth the extra expense to take my blood since it always has to be retested. Thanks Uncle Sam for all those vacinations you forced on me.

Looks like it is only for gay men, and not lesbians. But still, it's crap.

Wow, I did not know this. It made sense in 1983, does it make sense now? I don't know, I don't know the statistics.

If blue eyed asians were spreading mad cow disease through blood donations, I'd be for banning them from donating as well if it presented a danger to the blood supply.

yep...and thats only PART of it! ;)

In truth my tolerance for mindless ideological morons has always been rather limited...and my tendency to point it out in rather mean and offensive ways is also a curse and character flaw that goes back quite a ways...

I've had a crapload of vaccines. including all the hep, never been an issue for me....

Might have something to do with the percentages and tendencies of HIV/AIDS victims. As time and 'tolerance' grew you will notice they included other groups as well...intravenous drug users...etc...

Lesbians as a group were never really in the high risk category. Gay's were and are. Thats simply a fact. Ignoring that fact in the name of political correctness is simply foolish.

This is sooo freaking odd... why would military service DQ you?

apparently my last HEP-B vaccine really took hold. I still have the anti-bodies floating around. been tested several times (because it freaked me out initially) and no signs of actual HEP-B, just the anti-bodies. I guess that is a good thing, I have a head start on fighting it off if I ever get exposed.
