I like that even after shoving a bomb up his ass, he couldn't kill the Prince. ****ing terrorists are so inept, and these are the people we're freaking out about.

Well they hijacked four plans and kill thousands of people.. so all of them aren't inept :(

This isn't meant to be scornful, but can people who have a problem with this stuff tell me why they're so horrified by the body scans in particular and the pat downs?

It isn't like they're (in most cases) screen testing you for a porn shoot and taking living color nudes of your figure.

Some people take their privacy (more specifically, avoiding anyone seeing them nude except their mates/offspring/close relatives) more seriously than others.

To the point that they do not wish anyone to see them even close to naked, even on a scanner.

Or so I gather.

I really don't support the TSA... and the health concerns with the x raying I am very opposed to.. It's like forcing a medical procedure on somebody for no reason. It can be avoided, and the TSA isn't medically trained...

I don't support the tsa doing this.. but I think they need to do something. I am just not sure what. I want to feel safe when I fly though..

Or better yet, become an insider who gets to go around those security checks...

Wait, in your mind, a person who has 8 years minimum of training, and has demonstrated a mastery in his field before being allowed his credentials and has ethical guidelines and procedures through which to act is comparable to an entry-level minimum wage person given a badge?? When a dr touches you in ANY WAY he first tells you what he's going to do, and is doing so analytically, professionally.

Comparable to a doctor, but I don't think your physical trainer needs to touch under your clothes.

Umm... well, the stretching out part is probably innocent, but if I get the 'filled out' comment from a coach that might raise a red flag.

Ya, you can buy your own shoes or use the ones supplied... he doesn't keep your shoes, and he doesn't rub your feet while putting the shoes on, so there is no relevence to the point. The shoes are to protect the hardwood floors of the alley, among other reasons... further, the alley shoes are disinfected with each use.

That's another issue of using the same tactics to go overboard with security... and really another discussion altogether... the difference again is the metal detectors and any physical search is done with a wand and does not pat down any sensitive areas. Not a strips search... the only more in depth kind of search would be a full body cavity search.

Again, Dr vs thug with a badge. I can see certain areas of work where passing a physical would be prudent, and a requirement of the employer based on insuring the employee would be well suited to the job (and / or not on drugs).

Well, yes, you are right, that the process is the metal detector first, and people pulled out of line for the body scanners, and if you rather not get a second dose of radiation and have someone look at a naked image of your body, then you must put up with a groping, in some cases under the clothes... that's where there's a disconnect, because the people that will get scanned and violated the most are those with artificial hips, knees, etc... and they have yet to stop a single 'terrorist' using any of these machines because whenever a terrorist boards a plane he's gone AROUND the security and like with the shoe and underwear bombers it was with the assistance of 'sharp dressed men'.

You chose not to believe in the 'slippery slope'?? Well, hate to break it to you, but we're already on it... and the airports are the prime example : First was metal detectors, then take your shoes off, then no liquids, then the body scanners, then an escalation in the pat-downs if you feel that the machines are unsafe, so, what's next on this progression?? Or are people going to push back enough to turn the tide on this trend, or are we going to see these procedures expand....

???

WOW?!?!?!?! simply wow

theres no hope for you my friend, you just proved rational thought, reality and logic arent close friends of yours. Well you keep fighting that good imaginary fight, LOOK OUT SOMEONE IS LOOKING IN YOUR WINDOWS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! lol

sorry like I said Im good friends with rational thought, reason and logic so we wont agree Ill continue to live in reality and you can keep living in fantasy and being friends with paranoia, extreme dramatics and the irrational

like I said when you have some logic to show me how this violates the constitution and bill or rights ill be waiting until then feel free to keep talking in circles and nonsense :)

Yeah, but they aren't really seeing you nude. From what I've seen in the photographs, it's just this shadowy outline vaguely identifiable as the person who just walked through.

Thus my second statement, "To the point that they do not wish anyone to see them even close to naked, even on a scanner."

Even I would prefer to avoid the scanner for that reason.

My parents are highly religious/conservative, in social terms, that’s probably part of the reason…

I would "prefer" it also but Im still fine with it because I get the no scan/metal/pat down no fly. and Im fine with that also.

Heck I actually feel bad for the TSA agents that are forced to see me, wheres their rights? I could argue that as inhumane torture ;)

Hmm, I hadn't thought of it from that angle....Perhaps we'll see a rash of fat, ugly terrorists now?

Who will slip through because the TSA agents can’t stand looking at their (nearly) naked forms long enough to check closely?

why not they try everything else :)

And as I mentioned before, the stuff the TSA and DHS release is not the full size, full resolution images of what they actually see - in fact, they sport a lot of pixilation and blurring from being scaled down, the brightness/contrast is out of wack to name two issues.

If they aren't so graphic, why doesn't the DHS and/or TSA release the full images of what is ACTUALLY seen by these things instead of this bullsh*t?

Frankly, even if it was a flat-out X-ray nude, I still wouldn't be fussed.

Then again, I'm not the type to be bothered by a professional seeing me nude in a proper capacity, so maybe that's a bias.

I once read an article about this. I believe that I had followed the link from on of the threads here at DP. Unfortenately I cannot remember the thread or the name of the article or even what news company the article was from. If I had known that it would be such a big deal perhaps I would have bothered to memorize it. Oh well, tis life.

Anyways...

Yes the images that you see are blurred on purpose. They have admitted that yes they can get clear and detailed pictures with this technology. However they blur the images on purpose for two reasons (that I can remember). One was on the off chance that someone managed to get a picture off of the system and tried to post it on some internet site. Second reason was to preserve some sense of immediate privacy for the individuals having to go through the body scanners. In this way a persons privacy is safeguarded.

As an ugly older guy, neither the scanners or the grope bother me much. I feel sorry for anyone who has to look at this sad old body naked (Thank God my wife is tolerant), & as long as they do not get rough or crude the feel up should not be much worse than going to the doctor.

I can however see how a lot of other people might feel differently & I respect their concerns. What bothers me most is this does not seem like it will really gain much security wise.

With the advances in computer technology in the last decade I do not see why the scanners cannot be reprogrammed to only show foreign objects which should eliminate all privacy concerns.
Then this device could just replace the metal detectors & we would no longer have to remove our belt buckles & lose change.

Either way these machines will not detect implanted devices that I have read are being deployed by some terror cells.
That is why studying successful programs like what the Israelis use is still important.

The medical issues are pretty much a red herring, if I remember my nuclear effects training correctly. The frequency used will not even penetrate the dead layer of our skin.
The fact it reflects back is how the machine produces the images that it does.
