My take on it is the fact that she thinks its worth something to even bring up speaks to her intelligence. Ultimately, her attitude should be like yours, "who cares? its a silly youth thing," but instead she seemed to take it seriously.

She was the one who made it an issue? I was under the impression that it was something that opposition researchers dug up from her past.

She made it an issue on one of Bill Maher's talk shows.

What the hec are you talking about? She never brought up anything. Bill Maher did. She was on his show in 1999. One of 22 times she appeared on his show. She said on there that she dabbled in witchcraft when she was in HS. She said some pretty silly things.
Bill said on Larry King that she was very nice and and a sweet person. He had her on so often because he liked having Conservative women on. He especially liked her because of the SALT, the complete opposite of witch craft. He also is saying he has many more tapes and will keep bringing them out until she agrees to appear on his new show.
That said, the video didn't bother me a bit. You could tell she wasn't serious. She said her first date was with a witch then proceeded to say he. Everyone knows a male witch is a warlock. :) I think it was around Halloween too.
She was asked about it at the Rep. picnic in De and I heard her saying no, no, no, that was in high school, it was in high school. Bill wanted ratings and I gave them to him.
So I guess those in deleware have a choice, They can vote for someone who "dabbled in witchcraft" in high school or they can vote for a big government, cap and trade, marxist in Nov.

I missed the whole brouhaha over the witchcraft thing, so can someone explain why it's such a huge issue? It seems like the bulk of controversies surrounding her come from things that happened in the 90's.

It's something that, taken with the rest of her history and stances, is yet another sign of her being less than bright. It's like how with Palin, nothing individually that she says makes the thought of her as president scary, but if you look at her statements as a whole, that thought is downright terrifying.

Wrong. A witch would take insult to that. A male witch is just a witch.

Yeah, they can vote for a ****ing loony toon, or not. The woman is ****ing nuts. She's a YEC for crying out loud.

I think witches also must be able to float.

They could get to the bottom of this whole issue immediately if they determined how buoyant Ms. O'Donnell is.

She made it an issue on one of Bill Maher's talk shows.

They were talking about Halloween. She was a guest. They were looking for ratings. It was a show called Politically Incorrect. We only saw the part she played from the clip, not what led up to it. Do you think out of the blue she said "Oh by the way I dabbled in witchcraft in my youth?"
Thank God she didn't dabble in Marxism. Oh, never mind... that would be perfectly acceptable in a candidate.

She made it an issue 15 years ago. I don't see what that has to do with this race.

I understand that she's made a lot of stupid statements, but it seems like the majority of them are at least a decade old.

Her ethics complaint about paying her rent with campaign donations is from last year.

And that's perfectly legitimate (and a fairly important issue). I just don't understand why 90% of the criticism I hear of her has to do with the inane ****.

Again, it's part of the package. It's not stuff I would dwell on, but learning more about her from public comments is not wrong and should create part of a whole picture.

Edit: the YEC one is something I do find disturbing, the rest not as much except as part of the whole picture.

Its about understanding who she is as a person and what is important to her, as this is an indicator of how she will behave if elected. My preference is to have the people in charge have thoughts that have at least something to do with reality.

Think of it like Hillary Clinton's comment about dodging sniper fire, or Obama's comment about clinging to guns and bibles. Neither in itself was really a big deal, but both where legit issues to discuss since they helped create a part of the whole picture with both.

That stuff shows that she's an airhead.

That stuff shows that she's an airhead.

So the fact that she called herself a wiccan for a while in high school or freaked out about masturbation back in the 90's shows that she's an airhead?

Obama bumped lines of cocaine throughout high school and college.
Biden plagiarized during law school and his presidential campaign.
Hillary held seances in the white house.

What does each of those facts show about Obama, Biden and Hillary?

That they're all morons; that isn't news.

Both of those comments were made in 2008 during their presidential campaigns. Hillary and Obama were in their 50's when they made them, after long careers in politics.

The comments that O'Donnell is taking heat for were made in the 90's when O'Donnell had no political experience and was in her 20's.

The point being that they still help create a picture of the whole. Note I am not making a big deal about any of these, and only the YEC bothers me at all, but there is nothing wrong with discussing public comments made by people running for office. Remember also that one person lost their job in this administration because he was a communist when he was a kid.

I guess the election will be over before anyone thinks to look into Coons background about all the violations he's had concerning campaign contributions.
I posted a link somewhere on DP. Was going to repost here but can't find it.
Also Coons wrote a book called Response of Colleges and Universities to Calls for Divestment. I have no idea what that means and am having a hard time finding any information on it.
The election is right around the corner and we are mostly talking silly stuff about witchcraft.
So yes, we should investigate ethics complaints but lets investigate both candidates. OK?

And this has what to do with what I said, or with the topic?

A kid? You kid. Van Jones is a self avowed communist. Also a truther who blamed America right after 9/11 for the attack. He started STORM and the Color of Change.
Talk about extreme. We don't need to look at the Tea Party to find extreme. Just look at the people Obama surrounds himself with.

you could have just posted the transcripts from Beck's show.

You need to fact check and stop getting all your news from Beck. Hint: he wrote a book about that could have been subtitled "The Joys of Capitalism".
