I don't see crappy foreign policy and Voodoo economics on the list. They get my vote, all the rest stems from them.

I think the biggest problem in the US right now is that the government is beholden to special interests over the people. This one problem, mostly created by the way that candidates are financed, is the root cause of so many others, such as the problems caused by elites hedging policy towards their interests instead of the good of the nation, corruption (which our current finance system pretty much amounts to), issues with unions, wasteful spending, useless tax breaks (and loopholes), etc.

We are going away from what the people that fought WWII wanted us to be. They fought for us and every day we let them down.

Why should what they wanted the country to be matter. The majority of them are dead. I've never understood the ancestor worship that some people on here seem to practice.

None of the above.
The Libertarian agenda
The conservative "wish list".
Ignorance and fear
Lack of morals.
Extremism
but not in this order.

Ancestor worship is a practice of ancient man, of those who live in ............
We should respect our ancestors, learn from them, but think for ourselves.

Man's greed is the root cause for these problems, knowledge is the solution.....taxation is the brake or controller....We should, by now, know where to set the brake......
We cannot allow 2 percent or 3 % or 8/100s of our people to run the country and select our political representatives...

Campaign Finance and truth in advertising reform ?
The politician's run for office being limited in duration and cost, as it would be paid for by the taxpayer??.
Has any nation attempted this ?

Public campaign finance is pretty common in Europe. I believe its one of the primary reasons that their government is more responsive to the people.

The federal reserve which allows the government to artificallly prop up the economy, followed by our cluster**** foreign policy, political corruption and then the entitlement mentality.

Yeah, because so much of it has been implemented in this country.

This is funny because today after my American Presidency class my professor was talking about how he felt we need a strong libertarian presence in government.

As to the list:
Special Interests is a HUGE one. It is a root of evil for our country. Surprised it wasn't on the list
Two Party system sucks
Political spin doctors.

Hey, you have like 1.5 elected officials!
Don't forget the Koch brothers. They control the world from their super-secret Batcave in Wichita.

If you were going to be awesome supervillians, why be in Wichita?

Rational irrationality combined with the ability for artificial persons to lobby our govt. That covers it

wiki has a nice thumbnail of it:

A voter has very small chance of influencing policy. Therefore, the vote he casts is of little consequence to him. There is no incentive for a voter to invest time and energy analyzing the consequences of a policy. However, a voter derives some benefits from voting. It allows him to signal the kind of person he is, who he associates with. If there are no consequences in being mistaken about the effect of a policy, it becomes "rational" to hold the most pleasant opinion, or the one most conducive to socialization.

This seems to apply to religion as well as politics worldwide.
IMVHO. YMMV

Best answer, right here.

The lopsided distribution of wealth. Power follows money more than anything else. Through powerful influence over the media, elections, and markets, the top percents of wealth holders use that money power to insure that their interests become continuously more secure, and this is often at the expense of the middle class and poor.

They use the media to pacify you first, make you a passive bystander to a real life. Then if that doesn't work, they use it to distract you with a myriad of relatively inconsequential controversies. If that doesn't work, and you make too much noise, you will be marginalized.

In elections, they use money to buy politicians of both parties. When the electorate is especially duped, they vote for republicans. When they are getting more uppity, they vote for democrats. Neither party effects any real change to the fundamental interests of wealth holders.

In markets, they use their market power to pay as little as possible and charge as much as possible, both of these for as long as possible. The result is that, for the middle class, they will always struggle.

For a while, many of the people with power thought they should fear what the people would do if too much wealth accumulated in the hands of the few. They now know that they have us all sufficiently duped that I think they don't give it much thought. And so the system gets progressively worse, year by year.

Oh do tell us how that can be remedied. Look at Pro TEnnis-several million people train and only 100 or so make it on the pro tour in a given year. And on top of that-2 guys have won more majors than the rest of the world combined.

its the same way on a much larger scale in the global economy. THe best educated and the most innovative continue to make money. Stupid, untalented, unambitious or unlucky people do not

The two party system is corruption- since we use the two partys to see who gets into government and control it. The political system is what the government uses to maintain its power - Hence Government corruption is a byproduct of the two party system .The Parts cannot be greater than the whole- in any given system.

so we need to have those coalition governments we see in lots of europe made up of a loose alliance of 3-5 parties?

If America didnt at least attempt to police the world you can expect chaos.Who is gonna do so otherwise the UN?

Who gives a **** about the Euro-trash, Chaotic Africa, the Hellscape of the Middle East, Asia or Latin America? The only nation that had a rival in military strength is dead and buried. I fully support Fortress America, **** THE REST OF THE ****ING WORLD! The only thing we have to do with other countries is trade. Just like Jefferson said we should do. The neocon scumbags wanna police the rest of the damm world in their failed Woodrow Wilson experiments maybe the ****stains should do it on their own dime. They should take their ****stain families too.

The only thing wrong with this post is that I can only thank it once.
