Should the media's attention to this topic increase, decrease or stay the same? Please explain your answer.

I say decrease. He's just a dumbass douche bag, and since when is that news worthy? He ain't breaking the law or anything, he's free to do what he wants. But what he wants is stupid and the rest of us don't have to pay him any mind.

Stay the same. I agree with Gen. Petraeus, the planned protest is very likely to put troops in danger and people need to know how dangerous this crap can be in time of war. Maybe the increasing pressure he's under from all sides to cancel the event will finally make him reconsider the wisdom to carry on with it as planned.

I think the attention could taboo others from trying the same thing, but that effectively may not happen.
Decreasing the attention may make the problem go away. And yes I consider book burning a problem. Especially some freakass denomination burning the religious book of another.

I agree that it should decrease. I think the media is fanning the flames that could've just been a little spark if they hadn't run away with the story. I don't know about other channels, but the story is on MSNBC every single night at least 3 times.

I think the story has value for everyone. Regardless of whether or not you agree with this method of exercising one's rights, the person and people involved still hold this right.

Well it's not a big problem if that. It's not like this is standard, everday crap. But it's still a legal activity which means that if we want to limit its impact (because this is more than just "we're burning this book because our god doesn't like it" stuff, this is a purposeful attempt at an extreme action in order to elicit a response from the rest of us) then we need to ignore it. Mind our own business and get on with our day.

If some asswipe was burning bibles or flags it would be newworthy for a couple minutes than gone. That's the way this should have been treated.

Oh crap, I just heard the FBI has become involved with trying to talk him out of it! What the, ---is this country coming to?
Where's the FBI investigating El Gamal, Imam Rauf, Daisy Kahn, CAIR,
They are both, the Mosque, the Koran burning, inflamatory.

Yes, that is a good point.

The media coverage is dictated by what draws viewers/readers. It's a controversial subject which draws those viewers. Since I support capitalism and a relatively free market, and a free press, I think the media coverage is exactly appropriate, which is that the media coverage is what the market dictates.

Yes... that's why EVERY YEAR when somebody says 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas' it's not reported for 3 days.

I prefer my news and political analysis to not be over sensationalized, hyper-partisan tripe which panders to the lowest common denominator....which is where our media coverage currently sits. I support free market capitalism; but that also comes with responsibilities. One of which is that we cannot collectively act like the biggest dumbass ever born who can only keep their attention focused for 3 seconds before some blinking light will make us forget all about what the hell we were just talking about. We have to behave like we're humans, not monkeys.

In a perfect world, this hate-mongering scumbag and his flock of chumps would be completely ignored. However, here in the real world, people on both sides of it have vested interests in making sure it doesn't go away.

I personally hope all people in the media have the decency and intelligence to not even be there on Saturday.

I'm pretty okay with people coming out publicly against this exercise in moronic masturbation.

so if they report news, they're damned, and if they don't, they're damned. i think the coverage is fine, and hopefully will lead people to leave this asshole's church.

He's a ****tard burning a book. It's completely a non-issue and absolutely not newsworthy. If I go burn some of my books, is it going to make international headlines? **** no. Why? Because it's a non-issue. It's a ****ing book.

I've seen it discussed on Fox. I just hope they don't cover the event itself.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
I do not have a problem with someone saying Happy Holidays. I do have a problem with places who don't allow employees to say Merry Christmas and calling Christmas trees Holiday trees. I think a few places got the hint in the last few years that people weren't pleased.

The media should never have focused on him to begin with.

this would/should be a non story. If the news media didn't give this guy the time of day it would not be raising the ire in the middle east. Ever noticed in the news clip the gun on his desk? There is no way I would be a member of his church. As other say I will defend he has the right to burn the books. It doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.

I do not think you would even get international attention if you burned a koran, the pastor got attention because he is a pastor. I bet the stupidity of this media attention over the koran burning will probably be a the subject of a future SouthPark episode.

I agree with India. There should be some type of a media blackout on this incident. The pastor wants his 15 minutes, why give it to him.

The media will cover anything they think the people want to see, it's all about ratings and copy.

I think it should decrease.

While I think it is wrong for him to burn the book it is still within his rights. Just as it is their right to burn the American flag...which the muslims and many many others have done many a times without the hoopla that we are seeing with this pastor.

I want the media attention to decrease (stop all together perferably) because giving it all this attention is what is putting our troops in danger. Most of the world wouldn't have even known about this pastor and what he's going to do without the help from the media.
