I don't get how grown people are allowing their perspective on these things to be shaped by thugs and gang members.

Cops do not have cool music videos with half naked women in it, wear absurd clothing, decorate themselves with the most awful jewelry, wear clothing the wrong way such as wear ball caps backwards or pants sagging down below the ass crack, have the loudest stereo that plays the loudest most awful music(if you can actually call it music) and severely abuse the english language by trying to talk like a baby with ghetto rat baby talk otherwise known as ebonics.

In the thread about bullying bosses, Jallman read me the riot act for telling the HR department about the things that I saw a manager doing to other employees.

I'll never snitch again.

I have to wonder if he really believes most of that stuff he was saying. His rant against ratting on your friends and family to cut yourself a deal I understand. That is the most ****ed up thing someone can do is to rat out a family member or friend to get yourself a deal or to get a huge cash reward. Thats a major violation of loyalty, family bond, friendship and integrity. But the whole admiring gangsters, hating cops and saying that good samaritan deserved to get whacked for reporting bank robber to the police is something only a piece of **** would say, because its that kind **** why scum flourish.

My bet is it is schtick. But underneath lies a layer of truth.
I love Carlin; his gritty attitude and take no prisoners approach drives great comedy.

.

Of course I would stay with the kid. I would hope for most people that would go without saying.

Unfortunately, we've had 3 such calls this year where the person didn't even leave a call back number.......

How come your office doesn't have Caller I.D.?

Cell phone calls can be difficult to track.... also, if one wishes not to answer their phone, not a whole lot we can do about it.

Sometimes we can see the details as per which tower their call bounced off of, sometimes we can't...

*67 ftw!!!

I use that **** religiously when using my personal cell phone for "business calls".

No ****ing way am I going to be getting calls from little Joey's mom during my time off because she is still worried that the ticket I wrote her son is going to affect him getting into college.

You and me both. My personal cell phone is also my work phone.

Hear, hear. The best is if you work for a gummint agency, and your number shows up as "number unknown."

I wish I had that.

I wouldn't ever bother to report victimless crimes. Mainly because in my eyes, if there's no victim, there's no crime. I don't care what the "law" says. Too many laws are completely retarded.

What she said.

Aside from that, I think there's a book out there somewhere about how Americans, on average, commit 3 felonies a day. It's not because we're bad people, it's because the law is so convoluted.

As far as I'm concerned, if you're gonna snitch someone out for smoking some dope in the privacy of their own back yard or bedroom or basement with no children around to corrupt, you'd better be ready to do some hard time for eating a pickle while wearing a baseball cap on a second Tuesday during a leap year.

Assholes.

Wow.... 4 pages of saying, "Report crimes, but leave the potheads alone!"

I agree..... but do we need to beat a dead horse?

The stupidest thing is... when I get a call about.. "DEY SMOKIN' WEED... DEY GOT WEEED! WEEED!" I usually take my time, grab a coffee (and a donut.. okay. I don't really but I had to say that)... and slowly make my way to the "pot house" where I knock (softly) on the door......."Oh Darn.. nobody answered" (runs back to car and drives off spinning wheels).

"headquarters, clear me unable to locate and put me back in service"...

Extra, extra, read all about it: Officer of the law responds to reports of canibus consumption after satisfying the munchies!

TED,
Just ribbin' ya.

Always gotta get my snacks.

An officer must do try to do three things: Stay Dry, Stay Fed, and Get off work on time. :)

**** yeah! If your job is to wear a badge and deal with idiots and dickheads all day, shame on you if you don't get at least two of those done.

Here's a better question…

Which is worse, a criminal snitching to the cops on other criminals or a dirty cop snitching to criminals on other cops?

They're both "snitching", if you will.

Poll demands far too simple an answer.

A dirty cop....

Nothing is worse than a dirty cop.

To Avoid: Bathe regularly.... :)

I lived in a decent area that had some thugs that were dealing crack in their pad. I also had a Gen III NVD. So late at night when they were dealing, I was a watching and calling my buddy who was a task force supervisor of the local DEA. Why, I didn't want that scum and what they brought into my neighborhood. When teens were smoking reefer in the parking lot or a couple kids were playing hide the sausage in the lawn behind the building I let it go-they weren't hurting anyone. If I see someone driving impaired I have the HW patrol on speed dial. but i wouldn't call in someone for having expired plates

in some segments of society, the "leaders" push people not to cooperate with the cops and then the same leaders whine that the cops ignore the high crime rates

it should be a 20 year consecutive sentence to try to intimidate a witness and killing a witness should be a death sentence.

years ago I was in federal court not looking like an attorney. a bunch of coke dealers had been busted and were making initial appearances. their counsel were all clamoring for a prelminary hearing before the next GJ convened so they could find out the snitch (in reality the arrests had come off of wire taps). so these defense attorneys and counsel were whispering that they had to find out who the rat was. I knew the ADA and we discussed this and he just smiled noting they wanted to "eliminate the leak"

another GJ was convening in another city but within the district and he drove up that afternoon and got indictments (ie no Preliminary hearing)

when the mopes showed up for the hearing, the ADA handed the Magistrate the indictments who promptly remanded the defendants to custody with no bail

I would only report a crime that causes harm to another and if I could safely and of necessary anonomysly do so.

Apathy........

I wouldn't call that apathy. I think most people would be at least somewhat reluctant to step forward and report a crime or testify if there was a serious threat of violence or retaliation against themselves or their family. I mean seriously, how many of us would step forward to testify against the mafia? Prioritizing the safety of yourself and your immediate loved ones is natural and normal.

As to calling the cops, things that I see as minor and unintrusive I'd let slide. If my neighbors have the music a little too loud one weekend, I'm not going to call the cops. If the guy across the street is smoking a joint, I don't care. If the car parked at the end of the block has expired lisence plates, its irrelevant to me. But if it becomes intrusive or potentially dangerous, then yeah, I would and have made the call. For instance, if I saw gangbangers hanging in my neighborhood, I'd report any and everything I could to keep that element away from my neighborhood. Or to take a real life example, my neighbors used to have a pit bull. And it constantly would get out of their yard. The adults don't speak English and in the past I've tried speaking through the kids, but I'm not sure that was all that effective either. Anyway, I tried to speak to them about the problem - as their dog would get onto our yard. Once it tried to get into my backyard and attack my dog. Another time it chased my wife as she was heading out to her car. After speaking to them about it and getting no results, I made up my mind. I called the cops and animal control every time the dog was loose, which was basically a daily occurance if not more. After a few days, they must've got the message. They got rid of the dog.

The bolded section is the important part. Unfortunately, there isn't even a risk of this most of the time and people are still "scared" Ooooh. Scary.
More TV bull****. I swear TV ruins the public's perception of Law Enforcement and the realities of Crime.

Like, seriously... why do the cops need eyewitnesses anymore?
Everyone knows they can just get forensics to come out and find that nearly microscopic dead skin flake that fell off of the suspect while he was doing the crime somewhere in the middle of that 3 acres of knee high grass... I saw it on CSI. And, heck, I think I saw him with a rock, I know you can get fingerprints off a rock, I saw that on CSI too. And fingerprints always instantly tell you who it is.

EDIT: And you can afford to do all this to find out who was smoking pot in that field....
