I've done it before. I went up to someone's house for something, you could smell pot smoke wafting from every window and the person who answered the door was clearly stoned out of their mind, they could hardly put two words together. I concluded my business, went back to the car and called the police. Whatever happened from there, I have no idea.

Holy hell. What respect I had for you just plummeted to the deep, dark depths.

IMO, anyone who tattle-tales on people who aren't hurting anyone is pretty low.

Smoking pot, as it is illegal. I would report them for breaking the law and encourage the school to preform random drug screenings.

Well forgive me for not wanting to uphold the law and prevent illegal substances from being abused. Call me a snitch, but at the end of the day it's the pot smokers butt that will be jobless and in jail. Don't want to go to jail? Don't break the law. Pot is illegal, and I think it's sad that law enforcement doesn't enforce it enough.

Totally! It's illegal so we must tattle on others! I mean, this one time a guy I worked with in DC said something about doing it doggie-style and I called the cops on his ass. Having sex doggie style is illegal in DC after all, and we MUST enforce the laws!

I think people who can't keep their prying noses out of other peoples PRIVATE lives, should have their prying noses cut off.

While I wouldn't make that particular report myself, I think it's dangerous to equate reporting criminal activity to being a tattle-tale. If there were young children in the house, however, I think I probably would.

I wouldn't call the police if I saw pot smokers. I would if I saw a pot sale and get the license plates and stuff. They need to enforce the laws, not just the ones we don't like or feel aren't all that important. Pot is an illegal mind altering substance, and keeping it off the streets should be a priority. My uncle is currently serving time in prison for selling drugs, and he got caught through racial profiling and snitching. I don't want someone violating drug laws to be teaching our children.

Teachers are held to a respectable amount of moral conduct. It is not excessive, but it certainly is not to the standards as everyone else. People need to realize that.

They should enforce the ones that will actually help make our society better. And get rid of the rest of them.

No, it shouldn't be a priority at all. It should be a non-issue.

My uncle is currently serving time in prison for selling drugs, and he got caught through racial profiling and snitching.
I'm sorry to hear that your uncle is a victim of our warped, damaging, morally-reprehensible money sink called the "war on drugs".

I don't want someone violating drug laws to be teaching our children.
Why not?

Getting potheads off the streets and out of our schools does help society. I don't want someone stupid enough to smoke pot to be teaching my kids.

Don't expect me to be crying about that.

Funny, considering most of my friends are teachers and all either have or do smoke regularly.

How do you feel about people who drink alcohol?

ROFLMFAO

Well first off, I'd love to see you show how it helps society in any way, shape, or form. Secondly, what's the basis for calling someone who smokes pot "stupid"?

Lastly, if you really feel that way, you should homeschool then.

Why not? They are abusing illegal substances. I believe she should lessen the punishment for pot, but it's still illegal. Would you call the police if you witnessed a murder or any other crime?

Now, let's start off by being reasonable. Comparing a murder to smoking a joint is ridiculous. To answer your question, yes and no. I would call the police if I witnessed a murder but not a person jay-walking. Makes sense, right? Also, I don't want to have the police going out on calls to all the pot smokers when there are obviously millions of other things that are more important that they could be doing.

Sounds like you called the police because the person was a danger to themself or in possible danger by being too stoned/drunk.
Doesn't sound like you called the cops JUST because you smelled pot though... am I right or am I right?

What a waste of a 911 operators time. The 420 in progress calls will likely never make it past them and to dispatch - and this is a good thing, the units on patrol need to focus on responding to situations where people or property are threatened in a timely manner, not to some trivial situation where no harm is being done other than some busybody has their nostrils and/or sensibilities offended.

Heck the 911 call to report such a heinous offense is probably doing more harm than the people smoking the weed, it is petty frivolous and a waste of resources.

On topic, I do not care what a teacher does with their private time so long as it remains private. If their private life starts to creep into their work life and their performance suffers, or the kids are effected as a result, then there starts to be issue.

Let them have all the gay midget orgys they want and snort coke off from each other on the weekend, so long as it does not effect their job performance, and remains private. This holds true for virtually any job.

Nothing illegal, so that leave out weed

Things that do not show a good moral character should not be done in public where their students might see.

Well, after Prop 19...

I know a guy who got kicked out of a good private school for smoking pot with a teacher... He's now a chef who's been on TV.

He's owns a place in SB that got featured on Food Network + Travel Channel.

So, the moral is, if your kid gets booted from private school for smoking pot, don't despair...

The exception with educators is that if it becomes a "distraction" it is a matter of concern. If it is a significant enough of a distraction for the children and the community, you have problems.

Which is why I included the qualifier "and remains private" in my post.

Hmm...what are their names and what town/school they "teach" at?

Drinking is stupid also. But since it is not illegal I won't bother them...unless they come to school drunk, then they will be reported.

1: Lots of ways. But for now lets stick with driving + pot = stupid and dangerous. Driving - pot (or any other drug) = safer society.

2: Every pot smoker that I have ever met is stupid. When they have to sit and think to figure out what 5+5 = then I would have to say that they are stupid...wouldn't you?

3: I have just as much right to put my kids through public school as you do. And I also have a right to be assured that my childrens learning area is free from negative influences, and if any do crop up then they are dealt with properly. In the case of a teacher smoking pot that means calling the police and the teacher getting fired.

We already have laws against driving while under the influence, so want to try again?

Apparently, you have not met many pot smokers.

 Yes yes, get the teacher fired for daring to partake in something that might get them mildly intoxicated on their own time. Oooo.... really saving the children there, aren't ya?

And yeah, sure, you have every "right" to send your kids to public school. I'm just saying that a great many teachers smoke, or have smoked pot. At least most of the ones I've known. Ditto for college professors. But hey, you keep 'fighting the good fight' to put those evil people in jail where they belong. ;)

Teachers are held to a respectable amount of moral conduct.

Only when they are teaching...

In answer to the poll, I would only report a teacher for any crimes or activites that any other ordinary member of society were to be reported for.

Heck, what laws are there that say teachers have to be held to a "higher standard?" There was a time we used to think that of our politicians and policemen but private life is just what the words mean.. "private"
