Just watched a bit of it, coming from a society where religion is a minor thing, I am quite bemused at all the references to God he fits in there, gives the vibes that Atheists, Sikhs, Jews, Muslims or Hindus can't really be a part of his vision for America.

You must not be watching. Is it more than 5,000? :)

But him saying stuff like, (and i paraphrase, 'cause i can't remeber exactly what he said) "we must accept God so this nation can move foward" really seems rather exclusive.

Oh, it is. I'm just saying that if somebody unites each portion of society, then maybe whoever leads them can work with other portions to attain a cohesive whole?

Or am I "daring to dream" too hard again.

I think a better dream would be for religion to take a back seat to nationality, and for everyone to work together 'cause they're American.

Well - that would be my dream. But if this board is any indication? It can never happen.

It's a dream, but Beck and the American taliban have the wind in their sails for the moment.

Seems like a huge over hyped revival.

Beck said:
We are a country of God

I am so glad he can bring us all together and can deliver so well on his inclusiveness. All I need to do is accept god and accept that we are a country of him and I can join the cool kids club.

Most of the reputable sources I've read say there are "tens of thousands" of participants, although people in Beck's camp are trying to claim anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000... I even heard one estimate of possibly 500,000.
Reputable sources say it's difficult to get an accurate estimate because people are coming and going, and some of them are just tourists who wandered up to see what the hubbub was about, not actual participants.

What "reputable" sources, 10?

And...have you seen the aerial photos?

There is a university in Boston that does digital estimates give or take 20% based on aerial photos, so we should have fairly reliable numbers in a couple of days.

Comparing it to the inauguration and other aerial photos, I'd guess around 100,000.

My guess is about 80-90K. A pretty decent crowd. You have to remember that the mall holds 250K when it is completely filled from the Washington Monunment to the Lincoln Memorial. The aerial photos show it a quite a bit under 1/2 filled. So its likely in the range of 80-90K.

Half-filled? There were people back to the Washington Monument (although the crowd was sparse right in front of the Monument) AND there were people behind the trees on both sides. And I think only ONE SIDE holds 200K.

I think that's what's going on for the most part. Since there were several different faiths there, and with all the people there, I'm sure some have to be non-believers. The one thing they have is common is they are Americans.

I also noticed Glenn was wearing a bullet-proof vest. It's sad that there are people who would threaten to harm others and their families. I'm glad everyone stayed safe. I haven't heard any report of anything bad happening at all.

Maybe it was a girdle of some kind for his big fat pillsbury dough boy body. Why would someone waste a bullet on him?
Sorry Mellie. Thought I'd say it before someone else did.
I've never seen so much hate for a man who is just trying to do good. Not so much on this thread, but other ones are brutal.
Wow! what a great turn-out. I watched the whole thing on C-Span.
They'll be running it again tonight and on monday for those who missed it.
It lifted me up and made me cry in parts.
And woooo....the money for SOWF was 5.5 million and still coming in.
Ya did good Mr. Beck!

Yeah, that's why I get upset when the President's life is threatened.

The aerial shot shows it only filled about 1/2 way....and the entire mall holds 250K, so one side definitely holds less than 200k.

(I'm sorry...I mispoke earlier). The malls holds 250k from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. That's why looking at the aerial shot, 80k is probably a fairly accurate estimate.

There you go Mellie.

NBC News is saying 300,000. I'm going to say 450,000.
