Should we worry that America will become Sharia compliant?

The christian right wing nutjobs in this country frighten me far more than any sharia-law-wannabe person could ever hope to.

Both have extremes that I dont agree with. But I'll take a christian any day over this Sharia crap

I find it interesting that of the current 112 'yes' votes only five of them are visible, the others choose to hide for some reason. Does that say anything about them?

I keep hearing from conservative talk show hosts... Ah! look I found your problem. It's not Sharia Law at all! lol Why would anyone give those morons enough credibility to discuss their suggestions seriously? btw, Sharia law is one type of interpretation of laws and rules in the Quran. There are many interpretations just like in Christianity. There is no document called Sharia Law that Muslims have to follow! It is just term that conservative talk show host have taken to using because their listeners don't know what it is. Therefore they can define it as they wish for their purpose.

OMG, are people seriously this stupid? Really?

I commented on this earlier... someone is ***ing with the poll. They open this page without signing in to their account then vote multiple (many multiple) times... so they show up (or rather don't show up) as a guest when they vote.

Lol I know what you mean. I listen partially because I hate all the other crap on the radio when I'm in my car, but also because I enjoy hearing other people's perspectives on things... even if I disagree with them a lot of the time. I learn new perspectives sometimes and it helps me understand the mentality of people on the right side of the aisle.

I keep hearing from conservative talk show hosts that Feisal Abdul Rauf (the Imam for the Park 51/Cordoba House/Ground Zero Mosque) wants a Sharia compliant America and that we should be worried.

Why would Americans EVER condone cutting someone's hands off for stealing (they do also imprison people for theft)? Or stoning to death someone for committing adultery? Or lashing someone for having sex out of wedlock? Or killing someone who renounces their faith? Or allowing more than one wife? Or only allowing the husband to divorce his wife? Or killing homosexuals?

Some of the other laws aren't that big of a deal, or are more related to personal ways of practicing Islam rather than crime and punishment.

But to even humor the thought that we in America have anything to worry about this Imam wanting a Sharia compliant America IMO is laughable.

To be honest I don't know how far the majority of Muslims in America would want to integrate Sharia Law into America, if at all. Some Muslims condemn some of the forms of punishment listed above. Though there is much covered in Sharia law, many of the laws conflict with the rights and practices we have in America. I simply do not believe the laws that go against our constitution and practices would ever be condoned in America.

I voted other. There are some idiotic judges out there like the one in New Jersey who did cite sharia law and some supreme court judges who did cite foreign law who would mostly cite Sharia law. So there is a the risk that other anti-American judges will do something like that. This is why I support banning judges from using international laws(which also includes sharia law) as a basis for decisions . The rape victim like the one in New Jersey should not have had to go to a another court to overturn that idiot judges decisions seeing how that idiot judge should have never ruled that way in the first place. This is why applaud Oklahoma for wanting to enact a law that forbids judges from citing foreign and sharia law.

No fear, well at least until their higher rate of reproduction gives way to Muslims becoming the majority of the country. Then I will fear, if I am still alive.

We have 20 million illegal mexicans in the U.S. who are breeding the hell out of the muslims. Should we be grateful for that?

In terms of preserving Christianity versus Islam...I suppose. But like all things it is all a matter of perspective.

No, there is no worry what so ever with Sharia law ever becoming law of the land, of ever being able to override the rights and liberties of the individual. And everyone expressing the fear that this is a possibility is just being plain stupid. And that's the facts.

But what would the political commentators talk about if they didn't have the Islamic Fear Horse to flog? It's not like they have any real IDEAS for fixing things.

The only possibility of it happening is if enough people want it that they elect enough people to start amending the constitution in that direction. Its a pretty remote chance though and if there is that sort of groundswell, than its probably what the people want anyway.

I ain't worried, I have guns.

I am not worried because it would require such a massive shift in our culture that we will have to see it coming from a mile away and we would have time to react or leave the country. I am guessing, due to the passion that many in this country hold their beliefs, that such a thing would require multiple decades to come to fruition or there would be substantial violence.

Other...
A great twist on what this Islamic fellow said.
Maybe for cavemen this Sharia law is not evil...

Simply unbelievable.
.......if childern were to replace judges......
....or money were to replace truth.....

I might if I was interested enough to bother!!!

Shariah law is simply one kind of authoritarian law, and in that respect we should always be worried about rising authoritarianism, whether it comes from liberalism or conservatism, or Christianity or Islam.

I was more referring to it ACTUALLY being condoned in the U.S.

Yeah, anyone could be worried about Sharia Law... but that doesn't mean it will be integrated into our judicial system. Especially concerning the Sharia laws that go against our constitution and practices.

I see Shariah Law as just one example of a particular power structure taken to an extreme end. Since the predominant religion of the Middle East is Islamic, then it would make sense that the extreme result would be Shariah Law. It's much more realistic to be worried about a form of extremist Christian law because Christianity is the majority religion here, not Islam. Besides that, there isn't a political vacuum for Shariah Law to move into. To whatever extent you would agree, our constitutional safeguards would prevent Shariah from overruling our Federal and State laws.
