Since there is such an official church doctrine, surely you are able to post it here and remove any doubt that your opinion is correct.

That's not hard to do.

40 years ago, Pope John XXIII wrote "Crimine solicitationies", a 69-page document, bearing his official seal, that was sent out to all the bishops in the church. The document requires that no record of sexual abuse cases be kept where it may be accessed by the public, all records must "be diligently stored in the secret archives of the Curia [Vatican] as strictly confidential. Nor is it to be published nor added to with any commentaries." It also required that all victims be compelled to take an oath of secrecy when reporting the complaint to church officials, under religious threat if they do not comply. Bishops are instructed to pursue these cases "in the most secretive way... restrained by a perpetual silence... and everyone... is to observe the strictest secret which is commonly regarded as a secret of the Holy Office... under the penalty of excommunication".

Then-Cardinal Ratzinger, in 2001, sent a letter to all the bishops in the church stating that said law regarding strict secrecy in sex abuse cases was still in effect, effectively threatening anyone who would dare bring such cases to public light.

None of this is at all secret information, it's freely available for anyone who wants to look for it.

OK, I did your homework for you, and it appears you may be right. Here is a link to the story.

Has anyone else heard of this document?

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

I believe that it is wrong to tell any religion where they can or cannot practice. I am following with my beliefs, but I would greatly prefer if the Catholic church would REMOVE priest and others when they are convicted of molestation, rather than moving them to a new location. The lack of punishment shows the offenders that they can molest children and then escape unpunished to a new location.
No, we should not be allowed to tell them where they can and cannot build a church, but it is still the communities choice to donate to that specific church. It is legal to build next to schools and playgrounds, but not preferable.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

It is exactly comparable. A handful of muslims fly into the buildings just like a handful of catholics priests molest some kids. The only difference is that when a group of muslims that do not have anything to do with the terrorist want to build a mosque everyone acts as though they are building the mosque to rub the 9-11 attacks in their face. But yet if the catholic church wanted to build a church near a day care, elementary school, preschool a chuckie cheese pizza or some other place where lots of children hang out no one would give a rats ass. They would probably say "oh how wonderful the catholic church is building a church in that area, they'll probably help out a lot of people". But some muslims want a build a mosque and a lot of idiots act as though it was al queada, hezbollah, the taliban or some other muslim terrorist group building the mosque trying to rub the 9-11 attacks in the noses of the victims and their relatives.

Have you paid your jizya tax this month james?

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

I believe we should make it a criminal offense for teachers to be around any school also. They seem fairly fond of molesting the kids.

I can't imagine why they would want to keep the scandals out of the public eye. It's not like the media would go into a frenzy and attempt to crucify the Church.

oh wait...

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

No they shouldn't be banned from doing such.

However if a Catholic Priest had previously molested like a dozen kids from said daycare center I would say it'd be a bit questionable to build a church right next to said day care.

That said, I'd say its not exactly comparable to similar situations going on in the modern day...such as the mosque near ground zero...due to the scope of the situation there on a national level that it touches a vast majority of citizens the country over and has became a sort of monument to history in our country that people travel to visit where as a daycare that had a dozen kids molested is likely not going to be somewhere that people routinely go and visit and would be unlikely to even still remain in business or open at that point anyways.

People shouldn't be approximating American Muslims into Al Qaeda anyway. Condemning the building of this mosque because of what Al Qaeda did implies that Al Qaeda performed an action which made Islam in-and-of-itself a bad thing, which isn't a fair opinion or a sound national policy. Even if only one Muslim was affable, that one Muslim deserves to be considered a good representative of their faith and proof that it needn't necessarily be a force of corruption.

If it does not imply that, then the condemnation at least implies that it is acceptable to formulate opinions and national policy on false perceptions because the motive behind those perceptions (even if they are false) is sufficiently compelling. That is, because people can't help but conflate American Muslims with Al Qaeda due to the traumatic nature of 9/11 reducing their ability to separate the two, we should act as though there is a significant connection between the two groups.

I can't imagine why they would want to keep the scandals out of the public eye. It's not like the media would go into a frenzy and attempt to crucify the Church.

The media has been hard on the Catholic Church, but the Church has persisted in elevating itself above the law and public morality. Other institutions may try to hush up the acts of child molestors discovered in their ranks, but few will hide these molestors from secular authorities and administrate their own forms of justice.

Few are their own country, state, government.

I've had second thoughts about this and no, I don't think they shouldn't be able to. What if a little kid get's a dicked in the ear by a priest? I mean I know there are millions of Catholics out there and not all of them are child molesters but I'm not willing to take that chance.

do you have any evidence of catholic priests molesting anyone who wasn't in their congregation?

No but I have a unreasonable fear that a bunch of kids are gonna get some dicks in their ears. THE FACT that they are not allowed to marry a woman can ONLY mean that they will do such things.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

You do realize that it is only a small percentage of catholic priest have molested little kids.

Five myths about the Catholic sexual abuse scandal
Sexual abuse of minors is not the province of the Catholic Church alone. About 4 percent of priests committed an act of sexual abuse on a minor between 1950 and 2002, according to a study being conducted by John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. That is roughly consistent with data on many similar professions.

Hey why not let us ignore that HRCC filth has been doing this for years and years likely for centuries, all the way up the ladder to and likely including the head honcho.
But if it suits you to think that by blaming other faiths for doing the same thing will diminish attacks on HRCC, go ahead.
Have not heard of other faiths being charged to same degree as have HRCC and that these are continuing to be unearthed throughout entire christendom.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

I still say we need to keep them away from playgrounds. I mean in my town they want to build a catholic church 2 blocks from a playground. Why does it have to be there?! Are they trying to send a message? I mean it's to soon.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

I do not know anything about the catholic bible other than it is slightly similar to the christian bible. As far as I know with the christian bible it doesn't say anything about child molestation. Therefore it could be implied that it was okay as long as the molester was married to his victim and seeing how the catholic bible is similar to the christian bible it probably doesn't say anything about child molestation either.

HRCC Bible is comrised of books selected by HRCC Bishops, it is Christian Bible.
Are you trying to differentiate between Presbytarian and Catholic Bible?

The point is this:

If Catholic priests are no more likely than anyone else to be pedophiles, why is it that the church is being attacked as being riddled with pedophile priests? Why not attack some other profession?

Because members of other professions get fired when their bosses find out they're molesting children at work.

Because there are certain elements in the U.S. left and media that are anti-Catholic?

You're being sarcastic right?

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayca

Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuary schools & daycares?

After all a tiny percentage of catholic priests molested some kids. Letting them build near elementuary schools and day cares might be too much of a temptation and would be offensive to those who were abused by child molesters.

Ahahaha - I wonder what % of Catholics have molested children VS what % of school teachers have molested children.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

And people say there's no such thing as a stupid question.

I just don't see how being Catholic and molesting children are even related. I know several Catholics and none of them molest children as far as I know. If there isn't an actual practical reason, I believe any religion should be able to build a place of worship wherever they want.

Re: Should catholics be banned from building churches near elementuaryschools & dayc

Though the best solution is to let priests marry again.

I never understood this. Is the argument that "normal" men will turn to child molestation in absence of "normal" sex? I don't believe that.

Yep - I agree.

That's just like saying "if all the women disappeared then all the men would become gay"
