Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

If you don't believe in the freedom to have and express ugly thoughts, you don't believe in freedom.

If you don't believe in the freedom to associate with others on whatever basis you wish (if they'll have you), even if it's those ugly thoughts, then you don't believe in freedom.

Hey you can think what you want, it's when you apply your opinion to businesses and reject people because you don't like the way they look when you are getting rid of freedom. Also I'm not bashing Paul per se I'm bashing the entire part where the Libertarians have this idea that its fine to not serve people based on color or if they don't like the way they look, and they all mostly got this idea from the fact that Ron Paul, their great one, is a racist old man.

I weep for the future of journalism.

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

I happen to be a business owner, and I must say -- I don't WANT the right to refuse service to a person based upon their race or ethnicity. It's not as if my owning a business makes me lord and master of all I survey, you know.

Ultimately, discrimination is self-defeating. Basically, you would be fining yourself for your own biases, and if you were biased enough, you'd go out of business. It's kinda funny, but laws like CRA probably do more to keep racist business owners in business than putting them out of business.

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

Since he jumped ship to FOX News he can say whatever he wants you mean.

Also it's disheartening that people would agree to get their rights taken away. Where would it stop? A hospital or pharmacy could refuse a certain race or whatever service. What if it was a white guy in a Hispanic neighborhood? I guess buses should refuse to seat mexicans, could make black bus, white bus, mexican bus.

Take a step back for a second and think about it - do you actually think that any of this would ever happen?

No one has the freedom to contract with you if you don't want to enter that contract.

I would like to buy everything you own and all you ever will own for the sum of $1. If you refuse me, you are taking away my freedom. At least according to your formulation, you would be.

Now you're simply being juvenile.

Libertarians were around long before Ron Paul. Libertarians, at least the ones who aren't obsessed with drugs, are generally the most independent-minded folks in the political sphere. And you have no ability to separate principle from hyperbolic emotional baggage.

and to prove it, they all say the exact, same things about the exact, same issues.

But I'm just a "statist" so you must forgive my heresy.

 Outsiders usually tend to think group members are all exactly the same.

Then don't refuse them. It's a matter of maintaining liberty. They tell you one thing, they can tell you another.

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

@Johnny just google "Ron Paul racism" and see what it pulls up. For the record I think a lot of what Ron Paul says makes sense (staying out of foreign affairs, United Nations, legalization of pot) but he still says a lot of questionable things.

Take a step back for a second and think about it - do you actually think that any of this would ever happen?

No I don't because the CRA will stay intact.

Also, I'm with gardener. It's like you guys get a pamphlet and read off bullet points. A non poltical forum I went to had a "world affairs" section and there was a thread about Ron Paul and word for word they all said the same exact things as if though they were Jehovah's witnesses going door to door.

:lamo Are you ****ing serious? Google "barack obama racism" and see what it pulls up. Guess that proves he's a big, fat racist, right?

You've got to be ****ing kidding me with this Google ****.

People who follow the same political philosophy frequently say many of the same things. Are you just now learning this?

No wonder today's media is in such a sorry state ...

What can I say, free to choose is a powerful thing.
They even made a TV show about it in the 70's.

Also what do you mean media? Most media doesn't talk about his newsletters from the 90s or his op-ed pieces he wrote instead focusing on how he is right now. I guess the picture I posted wasn't proof enough though huh? What politican in their right mind would pose with Don Black?

Used to be people thought for themselves and didn't follow something like it was the Bible.

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

I share many of Ron Paul's views. Of course they sound the same because I support him. He is who got me interested in politics in the first place.

I don't share all of his views. An example is he's pro-life and I'm pro-choice.

I don't believe he's a racist. I believe the powers that be and media have every reason to smear him. He is a threat to Washington, big business and the Federal Reserve. He speaks out against the the corruption.

Look at Bush and Obama. They are ultimately the same. Obama's policies mirror Bush's.

After the points you made especially about the mother trying to buy formula really got to me. I will put in more reasearch on the issue. Of that were to happen it would break my heart.

The problem in America is people will ccuse you of racism when you go against the status quo.

I'm happy that we have a Black president. That door is finally open and it's about time. But his policies are horrible. There was no change.

It's old news. He's addressed it to most intelligent people's satisfaction. It's been addressed on this very forum numerous times. In any event, it has **** all to do with any political stance he or any other libertarian has.

And when I say "media," I mean you. Do you know why guilt by association is a losing tactic in political debate? I suggest you learn if you expect to be taken seriously.
Used to be people thought for themselves and didn't follow something like it was the Bible.
So what the hell does this mean? Are you going to give examples or just keep vomiting forth emotional hyperbole like a teenage girl?

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

No I don't because the CRA will stay intact.

....

Yes, if it stayed intact, it's obvious that none of that would happen.

However, I was very clearly posing you a hypothetical question in response to your hypothetical doomsday scenario. Do you mind answering it?

I think Ron Paul is a nutjob and disagree with him on more than you do. I also don't consider myself a libertarian.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

I'll tell you what, I want you and all the other libertarians on this thread to PM me "your" thoughts on a few topics:
-The gold standard
-federal reserve
-FDR
-social security
-war on drugs
-department of education
-department of agriculture
-any other department you may have an opinion on
-abortion
-immigration
-healthcare
-foreign policy
-war and military
-civil rights

and lastly why you voted for Ron Paul

Since he jumped ship to FOX News he can say whatever he wants you mean.

He's been a vocal Libertarian years before joining Fox.

Well I could see quite a few places down in Mississippi or hate to say this, my home state of SC (ever been to Maurice's BBQ?) embracing such an amendment to CRA, it's only a matter of time until a black or hispanic ran shop decides to do the same thing if not for anything else, but out of spite.

Also sorry, I was not referring to you being a Paul supporter if you thought that.

He's been a vocal Libertarian, years before joining Fox.
Well I will concede that point just seems like FOX seems to get the most people that work in absolutes.

Dude that already happens.

Re: John Stossel called for repeal of public accommodations section of Civil Rights A

Which is....where?

There are certain parts of town, where white people aren't allowed to go.
Now there aren't any signs or declarations but you just know, it isn't a place to visit.

Edit: that's what I was saying earlier in this thread.
Me and some buds went to eat at the Varsity in Atlanta late one night, it was closed so we went across the street to another restaurant.
They wouldn't serve us and the customers present were hostile.

Correction, you were to scared to get served and didn't feel like making a big **** about it. The same has happened to me in Atlanta, Cincinnati, etc that doesn't make it legal though. I'll be honest I never really made a big **** about it either, but it works both ways and I've never been anywhere in broad daylight that wouldn't serve me. Racism without a doubt exist from both sides but giving people a license to institute it isn't a good idea either.

I don't think it was racism, just prejudice and bigotry.
There's no point in making a stink about it though, I won't give them any of my money.

I'm free to choose.
