"To destroy this invisible government,
to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and
corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day."

-Theodore Roosevelt, 1912 Progressive Party Platform

It really is too bad that he lost :( ...now it's a hundred years later and we have all since then been paying the price that TR warned America about but did not heed.

Van Buren. The man most responsible for partisan politics and the political machine. Did you know that "OK" was created because of him?

nope, i didn't know that, but he's my favourite of all your presidents because he refused to help the mormons because he didn't want to lose votes, if thats not a proper politician, i don't know what is.

Teddy Roosevelt and Andrew Jackson were the two most bad-ass presidents. I think it is a toss-up between those two as to who would kill who in a celebrity deathmatch.

Obama is a wuss, and the only comparable wuss I can think of is Carter. Probably any other Prez could whup either ass, even William Howard Taft or Calvin Coolidge. :lamo

As far as pure physicality goes, Obama's pretty tough. He works out all the time and is probably in better shape than any president in recent history. Just sayin'

The obsession people have with President Obama is totally frightening. First thing first was Obama ever a soldier or experienced combat? No. What was the worse thing Obama has done physically? Nothing. Working out is not a big feat. There are some guys who have fought in wars and have been wounded. Those Presidents are the only Presidents qualified for being a badass. And look at Andrew Jackson. That guy was absolutely brutal. He is probably one of the only Presidents who can be compared to Stalin or Hitler or some tyrant. But for the biggest badass I still choose Teddy Roosevelt.

Want to hear another story on Teddy?
Why do they call those cushiony bears Teddy and not some name like soft bears? Well out in a hunting trip Teddy Roosevelt and some other hunters were in the Mississipi(sp?) woods looking to hunt bears. The other hunters found a bear and tied it to a tree so the President could shoot it. When Teddy went and saw the poor bear he felt it would be "unsportsmanship" to shoot a poor bear tied to a tree and exhausted. That is why the teddy bear has its name.

Goshin brought him up, so he's more likely to have an obsession than I do. I'm not saying obama is some manly badass. I'm just not saying that he's some girly wimp that would go down in a fight against a skinny old man like Goshin was suggesting.

No secret that I dislike Obama and otherwise generally have a low opinion of him.

Toughness, though, as in bad-ass-ed-ness, has little to do with being in fabulous shape. Being in good shape helps, but it isn't remotely the key to being badass.

Bad-ass is chiefly a matter of will, heart, and the willingness to throw down.

There's basically nothing you can point to about the Big O and say "that's badass" in the ass-kicking sense of the word. No military service, never been a cop, fireman, etc. No history of violence, peril or adventure.

Contrariwise, his manner and apparent attitude exhibit no hint that he could actually throw down if, say, Joe Biden were to grab a feel on Michelle after too many cocktails at a state dinner.

(Yes, yes, I know that's silly; he'd have the Secret Service guide Uncle Joe off somewhere private to sober up. But, that's kind of my point. Teddy or Old Hickory would've busted someone in the chops, at least.) :lamo

Well yes, he's not a very aggressive person, but to say that he's the weakest, most loserest president either that would be beat by an old man just seems like a case of derangement syndrome

BHO would win a presidential basketball championship. Nixon gets the bowling trophy. Not sure what GWB wins.. brush clearing perhaps?

You're taking this thread way too seriously.

I'm an Obama supporter and I agree with this.

However, being a bad ass is not necessarily a good thing. Cheney was a bad ass, and he was terrible!

GHWB was a badass. Carrier based pilots in the pacific had brass ones. Really dangerous duty. He earned a DFC. Now Ike was a tough guy but being the top dog wasn't as dangerous as being knee deep in Zeroes and triple A

more proof Van Buren is the most badass president

In the book More Information Than You Require, by John Hodgeman, the author states that Martin Van Buren wore a necklace of shrunken heads, and was also at Time Lord. He would wear bright colored vests and ascots, and would fly around in his Tardis.

Many people will say Jimmy Carter but at least he was ineffective and didn't stomp on the constitution like Teddy and Woodrow.

Obama is a pretty passive aggressive person though. Remember during the presidential run at Bush last state of the union address? After the speech was over Hilary went to shake hands with Obama and Obama turned his back to her.

Biased, poll is biased!

Far too many are, and we have for too many of them !
A month without polls...that would be nice...
And that we consider a violent man to be "good" is a reflection on our society.
But , Barack Obama is too "non violent"...He has to deal with many who have been poisoned with racism, bias, prejudice.

Was there any doubt? There can be only one..

Checking Teddy Roosevelt's resume is like reading a How-To guide on ass-kicking manliness. He was a cattle rancher, a deputy sheriff, an explorer, a police commissioner, the assistant Secretary of the Navy, the governor of New York, and a war hero.

Out of all of his jobs, hobbies and passions, Roosevelt always had a special spot in his heart for unadulterated violence. In 1898, Roosevelt formed the first U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, known as the Rough Riders. Most people already know of the Rough Riders and their historic charge up San Juan Hill, but few know that, since their horses had to be left behind, the Riders made this charge entirely on foot. You just could not stop this man from violencing the hell out of a San Juan Hill.

This is why I freaking love you, man.

Teddy Roosevelt was my first thought lol.

Wow. That's what I was thinking before the page loaded.

TEDDY!!!

Oddly enough, TR was my first thought as well...

that's because you've all been trained by progressive history professors.

Toughest President in US History was Andrew Jackson; who at one point actually let a man shoot him with a .58 caliber round in order to win a duel (by killing the other man).
