Obama is the future of the GOP for the next few years. Whomever can run as the most effective anti-Obama is going to lead the party

Does that worry you? Running against some one, instead of for something?

that is hilarious--I am told Obama's race had nothing to do with his win but rather he was running against Bush. Obama is screwing things up at a rate that Bush could not accomplish in 50 years

Not quite what I said. I said that with the political climate, the democrats could have run almost any one and won. Obama still ran a fairly positive campaign, running very much for things(hope and change et al). That is different than what you are suggesting would make the republican leader, running against some one.

a republican can run on real change or "put the adults back in charge"

Obama has a resume thinner than government issued toilet paper and he won because people were mad about the war and blamed McCain for the financial melt down that was both parties equal fault

Basically I voted for Obama because I felt he was better than the alternative. He was far from my first choice for the democratic nomination(I started posting here during the primaries, if you are curious go take alook at my early posts, especially the ones when he made the "clinging to guns and bibles" comment). The reasons you list are why I think any democratic candidate would have won. He did run on a largely positive message, and his websites issues area talked about what he was for, not against for the most part.

I guess what I was getting at is I am not so much interested in what a politician is against except in a vague way, but I am interested in what a politician is for. If Obama's main message would have been just "Bush and McCain are bad, I am against what they did", I doubt I could have voted for him.

that poll should have begun with scott brown

Everytime I see Eric Canter, I think of the stereotypical "Chaz," the yuppie frat boy, that everybody hates, in every B rate movie ever made. You know the type. Animal House comes to mind. :rofl

Jeb Bush?

Mitch McConnell?

Dick Cheney? or his minion

W.?

Where? Because I don't see any conservatives in the Democrat party. Even so-called "Blue dogs" are really lap dogs for Madam Pelosi and Co.

In Louisiana we have many of them who actually accuse the Republicans of not being right-wing enough. Google Charles Melancon (D-LA).

I beg to differ. Both parties are starting to shift away from the center, and that is actually good because it would force people to take sides.

Not everyone are sheeple. Our leaders do not dictate what we believe. When they lose elections they will figure it out and lean back to the center.

The biggest question for the Republican Party is who will lead it. Will it be the Status Quo, with Neo-Conservatives and Corporatists like Mitt Romney or Rick Perry? Will Reagan Conservatives like Erik Cantor and Paul Ryan rise in the Republican Leadership? Will conservative libertarians like Ron Paul and Rand Paul rise to power within the party?

I know who'd I like; but th at means it probably won't be the Pauls. The best thing would be if the GOP just died. We don't need two corrupt, bloated, big government parties.

That was Neidermeyer. You should know of Neidermeyer. If not, you should feel great shame and should resolve yourself to getting a 12 pack of beer and Animal House.

I like Mitt Romney but dare I say it? Establishment! Where has he been for the last 14 months? QUIET is where !! What I wish for is that the conservatives take back the Republican party but I can wish, can't I? ;)

Just somebody do the adult/responsible thing and wrest the controls from Rush Limbaugh. He is taken the party on a drunken joy ride that will not end well for Republicans.

I voted Romney and Other
Romney and Pauls Im guessing are the most popular but I dont think they challenge the Dems in 3 years unless a major scandal happens or all the doom and gloom comes true.

I think Allan West should be put on the list has he could get major push

Please remove Palin from the list has she isnt even realistic on a large scale she only a voice and mascot

In my opinion the Republican Party has to do a couple things, stop being so partisan. Not only towards the Dems and other parties but also inside their own walls, never seen the party so united and divided at the same time. If they clean this up they will have better success.

Im partialy changing my votes everything above still stands except now Rand will not be able to be "the future" with his stand on civil rights/ states rights

I think Scott Walker is an up-and-coming Republican. He is currently the executive of Milwaukee County and is the front runner to be the next governor of Wisconsin.

I liked Walker from the beginning because he cleaned up Milwaukee Country government after a pension scandal. The previous executive passed a law that granted county employees outrageous sums of money upon their retirement. Walkers got in and fixed it. He became my hero when, right after being elected, he slashed his own pay. He then balanced the county budget and created a surplus. He refused to take money from the federal stimulus package, instead he identified and worked out the problems within the county.

As a candidate for Wisconsin governor, Walker is proposing the abolishment of county government. All their responsibilities will be dissolved or turned over to the state. That could save a ton of tax money and remove a level of government that is not really needed. He also wants to reduce state employee pay and slash the tax burden on businesses so they can invest their own money into growth, creating more jobs. Pork projects will be stripped from the state budget, and money collected for a specific purpose will be used only for that purpose.

I think these are the things the Republican Party needs to get back to, reducing the government on a fiscal level and begin removing it from people's everyday lives. I am very excited about Scott Walker's candidacy, and I think his ideas are the Republicans of the future.

I find that interesting. Abolishment of county government might not sit well though. Although Doyle has done all he can to essentially drive business out of Wisconsin, so this guy might have a shot. Maybe harley-Davidson will stick around if this guy is what you say he is.

Wow; no clear consensus in this poll.
I think that's a pretty telling statement on the state of the Republican party today.
They have no clear leader, and none seems likely to emerge any time soon.
