So I'm doing a Presidential Tournament bracket and the last region is made up of all the President in between Eisenhower and Obama. This is the most difficult region for me and I was just wondering how you rank the Presidents from 1-11. The Presidents in this region are as follow (in order):

-Eisenhower
-JFK
-LBJ
-Nixon
-Ford
-Carter
-Reagan
-H.W. Bush
-Clinton
-W. Bush
-Obama

Oh yeah, and please explain why you chose the person you selected as the best, thanks.

Lol, no Bush II in the poll. Freudian slip?

Anyway, this is a list of statist thugs, but the best of the worst has to be Reagan.

I could only fit 10 Presidents in the poll and I think Bush Jr. is the least likely to get a first place vote out of the field, and why?

Take Obama off and replace him with Bush II.

No, even if you think Obama is the worst President ever you don't think more people would call him a great President rather than Bush? Either way it doesn't matter because I highly doubt either of them would be named the greatest.

Why are they statist thugs? Kennedy was an interventionist (Cuba). LBJ was a huge social welfare spender. Nixon enacted price controls. Ford tried to use inflation to bring about prosperity. Carter was an environmentalist nut and continued welfare traditions. Reagan cut taxes, but not spending. Bush raised taxes. Clinton, I don't need to say much. Bush was the 'compassionate conservative.' And Obama is trying to become LBJ.

you are correct...it's too early for obama and bush 2 was a dip****.

I'd have to say Ike.

I a post-WWII era, he did more to usher in a new era in America than any other U.S. president except may JFK and the only reason I didn't vote JFK over Ike is because JFK's tenure was cut way short to know exactly what else he might have done for this country. But there's no doubt the highway system, for example, changed the face of this nation in ways we're still reaping benefits from today.

Carter promoted coal as an energy source. I think he probably would have promoted nukes too had not public opinion been so negative.

I think it's too early to rank Obama since he's only been in office for a little over a year. However, I'll oblige for everyone except Obama:

1. JFK
2. Eisenhower
3. Nixon
4. Clinton
5. Bush Sr.
6. LBJ
7. Ford
8. Reagan
9. Carter
10. Bush Jr.

Why JFK at #1?

Eisenhower by far. Under his administration there were no shooting wars, interstate highways kept millions working, ended the Korean war, balanced the budget three times.

He pretty much saved the world from a nuclear war. If not for JFK's actions, no one after JFK would be on that list at all.

You realize that the Soviet Union put missiles on Cuba because of all of the invasion attempts by the US, right?

Well there's the Chrysler bailout, that's pretty statist. Encouraging energy conservation rather than market-based prices? Statists hate the price system.

For me, it's a question of what JFK did that other people in that situation would *not* have done. For example, suppose that Nixon won the 1960 election instead of JFK. I'm fairly certain he would've approved the Bay of Pigs fiasco too...but I'm less sure that he would've kept a cool head during the Cuban Missile Crisis instead of listening to his generals.

I think very few people could have maneuvered the country through the Cuban Missile Crisis the way JFK did.

The biggest thing that appeals to me about Ronaldus Magnus is that he was able to convey the American Spirit like no other POTUS. His handling of the Soviet Bear and alliances with Lady Thatcher, Lech Walesa and Pope JPII, along with the necessary buildup of the military helped bring the USSR to its knees.

You have Carter ranked above Dubya? You can't be serious.

Reagan.

That's like saying the robber who came into the store yesterday didn't do anything bad because the robber who came in today also decided to break all my windows. It's a terrible argument. Bad is bad.

Reagan, of course.

Even the Messiah steals his ideas, like his recent speech about BP in which he claims "someone once said 'trust, but verify'". Being the Messiah, he didn't have the decency to attribute the quote to Reagan.

Why Reagan? And why would you expect Obama to atribute that quote to Reagan? How do you know Reagan is the first to say it but Reagan didn't attribute it to someone else?
