What is your typical response to stress?

Psychologically, there are three typical responses to stress... the three "F's":

Fight
Flight
Freeze

Just an FYI.

I try to use stress toward something productive, as much as I can.

''Where's "drink heavily" on the list? ''

Somewhere under the fold cathegory, maybe? It seems to be the response from men in countries where the population is oppressed. Ireland, Former East European countries... It seems like they shut out the frustration with heavy drinking.

Correction. The "Three 'F's'" are the typical responses to FEAR, not stress.

Carry on.

I just like to drink heavily.

I work well under stress. I think clearly, logically, and unemotionally (for the most part). I definitely do not freeze and flight would be a last resort. I'm generally the one who steps forward and starts giving orders to those that are frozen or trying to flee.

Given, of course, that I'm in a situation wherein I *Know* what to do, that is. If I am out of my element, so to speak, I would at least attempt to do something, or defer to someone who knew more than I did and still attempt to do something. Only that something would be what THEY recommended. LOL

Those are animal reactions. Humans are more like this.

Beg for mercy

Close your eyes and pray

Humans ARE animals...

sex always works for me as a de-stresser....is that on the list???

Humans ARE animals...

Thinking animals that can act toward ends. We don't just respond to stimuli, we perceive ends that we desire and try to attain them.

I fight like mad when I'm stressed. I don't like things messing up my peace.

To inflict bodily harm on someone.

I control that impulse, of course.

But it is bad to startle me, especially if I am asleep or semi-conscious. The anesthesiologist who put me under for my emergency appendectomy a few months ago found that out the hard way. :doh

I work out my aggressions by beating the holy handbasket out of a heavy bag or sparring dummy as soon as possible. I can handle a lot more stress than when I was a young man before blowing and doing something stupid, but there's still an upper limit.

I have a drink occasionally when I'm stressed but the best thing I've found is sex. Nothing deactivates stress like sex can.

Better outcomes.

Yeah and then there's that whole alcoholism thing...

I've suffered sporadically from pretty severe anxiety disorder for at least 20 years.
I don't know how I deal with stress.
I guess I've been fortunate enough or canny enough to surround myself with people who shelter me from the worst of it.
Really, I rely very heavily on family members to carry me when the going gets rough.
Is it fair to them? Not really.
But I guess I contribute other things to the family besides strength and stability in times of crisis.
Different people bring different things to the table.

I stare vacuously into space until the voices stop... : D
