Music is completely subjective. It is all a matter of taste. One persons music is another's noise.

Todays music is no better or worse than anything else in the last 100 years depending on who you ask.

nah, DISCO Sucks no matter what your perspective is

I guess I don't know much about music anymore. Or at least what is popular. I think I tend to like music that pisses my wife off. Metal in its many variants, prog rock, and classical music. I like a lot of classic rock as well. Nobody has been making good metal in America since Pantera split, prog rock will never be popular because it requires people to have appreciation for arrangement and technical skill, and its kind of hard to make classical music or classic rock since it would be modern. I do enjoy some gothic stuff, not to be confused with gothic metal. Stuff like Lee Blaske.

THROW MY HANDS UP, THEY'RE PLAYIN' MY SONG, THE BUTTERFLIES FLY AWAY

NODDIN' MY HEAD LIKE 'YEAH', MOVIN' MY HIPS LIKE 'YEAH'

GOT MY HANDS UP, THEY'RE PLAYIN' MY SONG, YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE OKAY

YEAH, IT'S A PARTY IN THE U.S.A.

Popular music has dumbed down ever since the age of the internet, Ipods, and music downloads. It's a helluva lot easier for artists to get on the air now what with Myspace and music production software. I think it's also being marketed at younger audiences, especially teenage girls - because they're the main cosumers of Itunes and online music purchases.

As a result, popular music became way more cheesy and commercialized starting in the 90s. Sure there are still good artists out there, but you have to wade through mounds of cheesy commercial shyt just to find one of them. And since it's easier for an artist to make money by cranking out the same old commercial shyt than daring to be original, there's way less incentive for creativity.

The 80s is where it's at.

It started before that.

Empty Vee is what caused the downfall of music.

What do you think about the state of mainstream music today?

Like most creative endeavors, it has become watered down for mass production. The more watered down it is, the greater demographic it can reach, and the more money it can make. Quantity over quality.

Even good artists have to fight to keep their unique edge if they sign on with a record label. Not to mention, you don't need talent for your voice to be put through an algorithm to make it sound better.

Keith Richards definition of rock and roll -
"Five strings, three chords, two fingers, and one asshole".
