I know several people who seem to feed on their own personal outrage. They do not seem fully alive unless they are pissed off about something. Whether that cause be rational or irrational, they will find a reason to be angry.

So, do you guys think this is normal for some people or am I just misreading them?

The "need" to be outraged?
No, not really.
I always prefer not to be outraged, it seems.

I am the same. The less angry I am, the better I feel.

some people can't be happy unless they are pissed off
seems strange, but it's true

The answer to any question that starts with "do some people" is always going to be "yes".

Do some people have naturally green and purple skin?

I don't think they really have a "need" for outrage, they just haven't learned how to channel that energy into something creative. It probably also says a little about their feeling powerless in certain situations and about their level of ideological beliefs.

Most definitely! I, personally, have my moments where I feed on this emotion, so I can identify.

If you ever listen to, as a prime example, Michael Savage on AM radio, you'll hear it in his voice. The guy is outrage 24/7. I don't know how he sleeps at night.

A lot of the political "outrage" is fake. It's just for effect. But people feel the need to pretend to be outraged.

Oh absolutely. There are people on this very forum that aren't happy unless they are butthurt about something and letting everyone here know it with as much shrill aplomb as possible.

You will probably find this offensive, but I was thinking about the Al Gore threads when I made this thread.

Because people think Al Gore is a hypocrite for living in the lap of luxury, with a more than enormous (even by American standards) carbon footprint, while preaching to the world the reduce theirs? :rofl

LOL. I don't feel offended, I feel highly amused!

Ignorance, hatred and attachment are the three poisons of our world and the cause of all problems.

When people are attached to the idea that they must be angry or that they have no control over their anger and thus must vent it hurtfully, you see a lot of illogical lashing out.

Probably horizontally.

I think we can say yes on account of the fact that at least some people voluntarily watch Glenn Beck

It has to do with caring. It's when people stop caring, take their emotions to a pub instead of a forum, it really becomes nasty.

Feelings might go unexpressed
I think that’s probably for the best

Political correctness has given the cubicle bunnies and others low on the totem pole of life the ability to gain power by taking offense where none was intended

He makes me all jittery inside. I can't listen to him.

When people become outraged they usually pick on Timmey.:(

You forgot "good intentions".

A good example of the need to be outraged: The Prof's posts criticizing Obama for not heading directly to the gulf to stop the oil leak, using (apparently) his super powers.

Obama = superman, ya know.

Misguided intentions fall under the category of attachment. You become attached to the notion that your plan or idea is what's best for the world. It stems from the ego and nothing more.
