Affirmative action is necessary in our society because of racism and I support it 100%. When racism no longer exsist? Then I will no longer feel it is needed. Til then? I LOVE AA:)

At this point awards should be based on need, but I disagree that racism isn't still a problem in 21st century America.

While I feel we should help all poor kids? Those poor white kids have a clear advantage over those non-white kids. Their skin color.

Sadly even though we have a black POTUS? Racism and classism(sp?) is alive and kicking in this country. Who do you think has a better chance? The poor white person or the poor non-white? I can tell you it is the white person.

How in hell can you say it was not necessary in the past? Honestly it just makes me wonder about people because trust me on this: if Affirmative Action had never been set into place? There would be a hell of a lot of black folks that never and do mean never gotten a job. :(

Considering they don't send a picture of themselves with their college application, I guess the one that checks off "African American" has a better chance.

I never owned slaves. I didn't even know it was an option, dammit!

But it is nice to see at least some of the proponents of AA proudly admit they do it out of racism, revenge and apparent self-loathing. Unfortunately, AA just can't help people who choose to be stuck in the past. :shrug:

If you aren't aware yet that a large majority of human kind would rather live in squalor than work to get out, you need to experience more.

I'm sure they want to get out. They just don't want to work hard enough to do it. And less you think I reek of racism, this applies to all people in the ghetto.

I think anybody that is still racist in this day and age should be punished in some sorta way. So I guess my answer would be yes? I dunno.

I know we are not our multiple great grandparents but what are we trying to do to wipe out racism and make it better? I have to say that Affirmative Action is one of the ways?

When did I decide to own slaves? When did my parents, or their parents, or their parents make that decision? How long are we going to blame whitey for slavery? I'd have to go back five generations in my family before it was even possible for one of my ancestors to have owned slaves. And even then, what I do know of the family history seems to say we came from poor white stock who never could've dreamed of having enough money to own slaves.

The rest of post is blantantly bigoted. Clearly you don't care about ending discrimination, as long as the right (e.i. white) people are being discriminated against. Maybe the affirmative action bigots (and not all AA supporters are bigots) forgot the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

So obviously the most interesting situations is that a lot, and by that I mean the majority of black in America have white ancestors. So should they be punished too cause their ancestors owned slaves?
