If you had to flee America.

If You Had to Flee America. Where to?

Definitely.
I think their non interventionism has been able to keep their federal government in check.
It had no excuse to grow.

My "anti-federalist" mentality is actually very similar in nature to Swiss Federalism.

In the US, the anti-federalists were the one's arguing for something like what Switzerland adopted.

I believe their effective tax rate is less than the U.S.

I'll look it up.

Edit: Here it is.

Aside from Canada and Switzerland, which are listed, what are the tax rates on the other countries I listed?

Belize and Australia in particular.

If Obamanomics really did a number on our nation and you had to flee, where would you want to go?

Please discuss your reasons for your choice.

This poll is multiple choice. If you like, you may choose more than one.

I would flee if Sarah Palin ever became President.

I chose Canada first because it's close by and I can dig how nice they are, but they get bad winters and I haven't even seen snow yet.

I chose Mexico next because it's probably the next closest nation I could flee to, but I don't know if I would do well with the lack of infrastructure or all the drug wars that happen there.

Next was Netherlands, which I can dig because I favor the legalization of drugs and prostitution, but that may make it a place I could visit rather than live.

So my final choice was Switzerland because it's a pretty neutral country so I expect it to leave people mostly alone, which I can respect, and I could learn to handle the cold there.

Ugh... the majority want to come to Canada.

I think a lot of you who voted for Canada fail to realize that if the U.S. economy collapses, our economy would also go under. You would just be fleeing from one broken country to another. And it would be much colder.

I always find it funny when conservatives, who hate "socialism" and high taxes, say they want to move away from America, and then list places which have higher taxes and more socialism than the US.

Remember Limbaugh's threat to leave the country if health care passed and move to Costa Rica, where they have a national health care program? :rofl

Norway. I have friends in Bergen and everyone I've met from there is generally quite pleased with life - plus most people speak English so I think the transition would be easier that way - and I'm pretty sure I could get a job pretty quickly thanks to the people I know.

AND no military.

I like Canada. They are a more moderate country than the U.S.. They rarely have an unbalanced budget, they aren't a super power, they have a reasonable healthcare system, and I like the Northern climate with lots of winter sports options. I would fit in well in Canada. I like Canada very much.

I'd go to Israel

It's the only other nation I'd die for.

I'd go to Switzerland, for obvious reasons. Panama is supposed to be nice these days as well. Probably the easiest place for me to go though would be China. At least there they are moving toward a free market instead of away from it like we are now. Also the corruption maze is easier to navigate, and the more money you have, the more rights you've got.

A self-professed libertarian touting the virtues of a communist country, calling it the "easiest place to go".... my head is spinning.

45% want to go the Canada. Their conservatives are to the left of most of our so-called liberals. They do, however, have a great national insurance program.

It would also, of course, somehow be different from what thousands upon thousands of Mexicans do every year. They're not sure how, but it just would be.

That actually doesn't quite make sense...If you'd "die" for America, why are you fleeing it in the first place?

The premise of this thread is that I am somehow forced to leave. For the sake of the argument let's say that I would still die for America....I'm still being forced to leave for some reason.

Fair enough...just checkin'.

Idaho...and for those of you that dont think Idaho is another country...you dont know dammit! :)

Can you have your own private Idaho?

Canada, Great Britain, or Ireland would be the easiest to transition to I believe

With all the libs fleeing the country,I would stay right here. Just think. no more liberals to support.

I like the grand caymans

Dominica is beautiful, I went there for a day on my Honeymoon (Cruise), The guide we had noted that the police don't carry weapons and if you dropped your wallet in a public place, it would be there when you came back or at the police station. The crime rate is almost zero. The people were more friendly there than anyplace I've been. Sadly serious sinus issues prevent me from getting a PADI certification

America is my land and my people. It would take something particularly compelling for me to consider even leaving Wyoming.

That said, if I had to leave the US, I'd go for Canada. Two civil wars two centuries ago, and we are still the same people. If anything, we are closer now than we have ever been.

That's not true. While Canada is left-leaning, we have some pretty staunch conservatives here, and our evangelical right is as strong as ever.

The difference is that our political conservatives are more balanced between classical and neo-cons. Unfortunately, the neo-con lobby has been growing a lot in recent years.

It would have to be something t pretty compiling for me to leave Texas. For example, something like a civil war, or something like that.

I would be going to Canada than the countries overseas, if I had too leave Texas. :)

I voted other, because I would fight in place and die, if need be, to restore liberty to my country.
