Does it matter if we a christian nation?

Does it matter if we a christian nation?

The significance of the fact that 45 out of 50 State's preambles refer to God in one aspect or another is (to me) a significant indicator of the fact that this is (was intended to be) a Christian nation. (again- it speaks to context)

Not necessarily. Most religions have a concept of God, and God itself is not indicative of Christianity.

I've heard it postulated that some of the founders were Masons. Masons themselves are considered to be a Christian organization, but several of the concepts and principles in that organization won't be found anywhere in the Bible, and as you advance in that organization, there are a few surprises in store for you from what I hear.;)

Believe as you wish...

In my opinion, ToothPicVic nailed it...

did he address the state preambles? if not, then no, he didn't nail it.

The Oklahoma state conastitution written in 1907 says this

Section II-5: Public money or property - Use for sectarian purposes.
No public money or property shall ever be appropriated,
applied, donated, or used, directly or indirectly, for the use,
benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, or system
of religion, or for the use, benefit, or support of any priest,
preacher, minister, or other religious teacher or dignitary, or
sectarian institution as such.

Does this sound like they wanted Oklahoma to be a "christian" state? But it's turned into one anyway. This is not now, nor has it ever been a "christian" nation. Only "Christians" tell you it is. God help us if these people ever get their hands on our government. Anyone that thinks a nation under christian control would be any less cruel and heartless than a muslam nation needs their head examined. I believe a lot of the intense rhetoric we hear lately is coming from disheartened Christians that saw their best chance to take control of the government with the fall from grace of George Bush, their hand picked born again Christian savior. I believe the country just dodged a bullet and we were blessed that these power hungry evangalical Christians put their faith in a looser. Can one imagine what they would be saying now had his crusades went well in Iraq? Surely it would have been God's hand helping our "christian" leader. We the people must remain vigilent and make sure these people never win over our government. America is lost if they do.

It is very important that we are NOT a christian nation. Theocracy is not compatable with justice, democracy or reality.

It doesn't matter what we clasify ourselves as, as long as the Constitution is followed to the letter.
