I think we should legalize hard drugs to remove the criminal element from drug distribution and pay for treatment with taxes. Who agrees with me?
I voted No.
I live in an area (Appalachians) that is notorious for meth. I do not want to see the people who cook it and distribute it ever considered legal.

They don't have to be. Simply regulate the manufacture and distribution of meth in a manner that best suites your area.
If Meth was legal then the bad guys you reference would be out of business. Those who ingest it could be offered help to get off it.
Until then, the bad guys continue to make big money while law enforcement is burdened with trying to put them out of business. Addicts commit crimes to pay for their addiction and then give their ill-gotten money to the pushers.
Drugs should be treated as a social/health issue and not as a criminal issue as it has been now for many years.
I could go for it if we could designate specific cities as drug zones for all the addicts to populate. I don't want us to end up looking like Amsterdam.
There are already designated areas for addicts to go to and that is areas where they are less likely to be caught: Either into the concert jungle or the backwoods.
Meth is a toxic chemical that takes HAZMAT to dispose of. It makes cocaine look like child's play.
We should start treating meth like any other biological agent.

I do not advocate legalizing any drugs currently illegal, certainly not hard drugs. I don't really care much one way or another about marijuana, but I think legalizing harder drugs would be detrimental to society. I think the social and legal stigma associated with those drugs is a good thing.
We could end all crime if we made murder, rape, theft, child porn, statutory rape, arson, drunk driving and many other things legal, there would be no crime.
I would rather that my tax dollars be used to incarcerate their ass...
Drug treatment is not the responsibility of the tax payers.

All these crimes are crimes against another person. Simply ingesting drugs is not. The distinction is an important one.
You want to me shell out cash to someone I do not know so they can get treatment. If I got to be shelling out cash I do not want to do it for their enjoyment. Why do you want to imprison someone who never even bothered you? What's the point?
Agreed on that point. I didn't notice in the initial post that paying for treatment was part of the deal. As far as I'm concerned, do your drugs, but when you become an addict, then pay the price, whichever price you decide to pay.
