I don't consistently keep a journal, but have at various times of my life, particularly during periods of depression (the real deep dark type). The primary reason is because during those times, my perceptions are "abnormal" in the usual sense of the word, and it helps me get in touch with subconscious and/or problematic issues that I am dealing with. These times are also the primary creative periods that I have, so I write poetry. It helps me later have more understanding of myself. I do keep a dream journal, because I have many strange dreams, and it has helped me gain insight that I needed.

That's interesting. I could've written this.
The times I keep a journal are the times when I sense my perceptions are going askew.
Reading through my entries later, when I'm feeling okay again, I'm able to recognize patterns and red flags, warning signs that I'm possibly going off the rails emotionally.
It's helped me be a lot more self-aware.

If you wish to act like a girl then that is your business, just do not try to hide in the closet by slapping another label on it. Not everyone falls for something just because someone slaps another label on it, look its not used is pre-owned, look its not gay marriages its civil unions/domestic partnerships, look its not a Bong for smoking weed its a water pipe for smoking tobacco.

That's actually kind of discriminatory to guys, 'cause it says that guys are restricted from expression in a journal. Expression of feelings or writing in general has no gender or gender association, therefore saying that men who do it are girl is a pretty baseless argument.

Yeah, sometimes those things residing in the deep dark recesses are scary.;)

I am a man so no I do not have a diary/journal. Writing dairies/journals is something only chicks do..

Perhaps you need to get in touch with your feminine side. You know- balance you out a little.;) If I can be perceived as a man on internet discussion forums (which I often am), then you guys can fess up that you actually have emotions.:D (just kidding with you:))

Do you keep a written journal or a blog of your life's activities?

If you do, why do you do it?

I have a blog that is very personal in nature. I started it as a sort of self-awareness/healing outlet.

I have kind of neglected it for awhile now, but it seems like when I start blogging actively, it becomes a chore. So I try and only blog sporadically or when I feel particularly driven to get something off my chest.

You do realize you're wasting your keystrokes, right? Sadly - yes...

TED,
Ignored it for that very reason.

But, some have to be "put in their place"....and I do end up with a better feeling, even if for naught.
