Why the hell would we want to do that?

I think he's hurting for business right now. Probably why he seems so distracted and perturbed.

Yes and no.

Here in Scotland you have to spend a lot of money getting ready to buy somewhere and you are up against others in blind bidding anyway so if someone lets you go through all that and had no intention of selling to you, they have wasted your time and money.

Are blind biddings on the sale of land mandatory in Scotland?

Yes, as a seller I want to have that right.

Thing is, I do. I just don't have the right to insult people and encourage discrimination at the same time.

That seems like thought-crime to me. Shouldn't a person be allowed to think and say what they please, regardless of how other's may feel about it? What forms of discrimination are acceptable in your mind? Suppose the person selling the land said "no poor people", would that be an acceptable form of discrimination in your opinion?

No but they are the most usual way except just now when the property market is almost non moving.

If there is more than one person interested in buying then they do the blind bidding to get as high a price as possible.

The next most usual is fixed price. In normal times this happens when someone wants to sell but has had no offers.

In today's climate a lot of the time people just make the lowest possible offer and then wriggle up if necessary.

Of course it's not thought crime. It just would be deliberately insulting to put up notices saying you wanted to sell your house but you would not sell it to anyone who was Black or a Christian.

People don't make any 'no anybodies' when selling and I don't know of this happening even when racism and homophobia were quite widespread.

I think the only kind of discrimination I can think of is 'no one who does not have sufficient money to pay'.

That makes sense.
