Which is the racist position?

Which is the racist position?

Details are needed to determine context.

If memory servers (and it probably doesn't), that comedian you speak of showed his racist side.

Not in a comedic way, but in a racist way.

Thus the response.

But, I entirely agree, as to racist remarks, some people are more likely than others to be vilified by the various media outlets.

You do not think the media would care if a white guy told a racist joke about black people in a comedic way? Would Larry the Cable Guy get away with telling the Barack Obama Christmas tree ornament joke? Would a black comedian get away with saying "How long does it take for a white women to take a crap??? 9 months"?

I dunno.

Did they?

You seem to have specific instances in mind.

As the context is different in each instance, I would need more information before telling you which would be more likely (and if you already know the answer, in your opinion, don't hesitate to tell me.

And did I not just agree that the some of the media can be biased some of the time?

Did you seriously just imply that who tells a joke and who the joke is told to are not part of the context?!?!

If the joke is racist then it does not matter who told the joke.

If you were a white comedian telling a joke racist against black persons to a group of black and white persons while doing a show, most likely only those persons with racist tendencies or really thin skins would be offended.

I agree with that.

If you were a white (are there any black ones??) Neo-Nazi telling a joke racist against black persons to a group of white Neo-Nazis, very likely none of them would be offended. And those who were wouldn't say anything, most likely.

Why would nazis be offended about a racist joke about a black person.

If the joke is racist then it does not matter who told the joke.

Of course it does. That is the point that you are missing and the point that has been explained to you in much detail. It is not ALWAYS one way.

I cannot vote in this poll as there is no Other..

All you folks that thinks Black Folks should just get over it and insane. Racism is still very real in this country and we should never forget History unless we wish to Repeat it.

I am so glad the little punk that did this was arrested and this little punk needs an education on racism and how not to be a frigging asswipe.

Somebody made a stupid racial joke using the Walmart PA. Big deal.

I hear black comedians on TV making jokes about stupid white people all the time. Apparently that isn't a problem... so, whatever. GTF over it.

Big Deal? What if it was not a joke? What if it had lead to a race fight inside the store? Sure. No Biggie.

Big Deal? What if it was not a joke?

So if he told the Barack Obama Christmas ornament joke instead of black people leave the store then it should be alright because it is a joke?

What if it had lead to a race fight inside the store?

Then those who threw the first punch should be charged and prosecuted.

You are being disgusting and hurtful! You are breaking the rules and Shut your mouth with this tree thing! How dare you even ask or post this kind of thing? :(

Come now, you know perfectly well that a white comedian at a comedy club telling that joke would be lucky if he were not lynched.

Contrariwise a black comedian can say things as bad or worse about a white politician and get away with it.

Just admit there's a double standard and move on.

comedy clubs are for humor and there is Nothing funny about that tree thing and shame on those that think this is funny. :(

I mean it may go over as funny at a KKK Meeting! WTF is wrong with some of you people?

Would you tell the joke to a random black person(someone you do not know)?

Hey did you hear that Halmark is making a Barack Obama Christmas ornament? Now everyone can hang a nigger from a tree.

STOP Saying IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Why wouldn't you tell the joke to some random black guy on the street?

Because it is wrong and racist! What the hell is wrong with you? :(

Why wouldn't you tell the joke to some random black guy on the street?

I wouldn't go up to a random guy on the street and tell the following joke either:

What's the difference between a cadillac and a pile of dead babies

I don't have a Cadillac in my Garage.

I also wouldn't go up to a random girl on the street and ask her "Do you have a any italian in you" and when she says no ask her "Do you want some"

Does it mean those things are racist because I wouldn't go up to a random person on the street and say them? No, it means that jokes whose humor comes from being offensive are generally ACTUALLY offensive to a bad degree when made without any context, to complete strangers.

Hanging black people, in a general sense sans context, is not funny.

A pile of dead babies, in a general sense sans context, is not funny.

Propositioning a woman for sex, without any prior interaction, is generally not funny.

That doesn't mean that given a proper situations and context that they couldn't be funny.

Which is why the idiotic "why won't you go up to a random black guy and say it" argument is as idiotic as Aaronssongs inverse of that suggesting that "nigger" is always, without questioning, evil to say because someone wouldn't stand in the middle of a mall just repeating it loudly over and over again.

It always amazes me that some folks are so rigidly attached to their position that they cannot grasp the concept of CONTEXT. Things are NOT black or white, nor, in nearly all cases, are their absolutes.

From a denuded discussion about the prank in NJ calling for all black people to leave, 1069 believes the black people in the store are poor victims, having to suffer the embarrassment of being black and picked on. I think they are amde of sterner stuff and have every right to be offended but are not victims. From that this poll. Please explain yourself...

****, I missed the poll. Ahh, found it.

They have character. They want no ones pity. They are not victims. Black folks are victims. We ought to make such talk illegal. The black folks should be compensated

I thought that the poll questions and the idea was "ill-conceived" and badly worded.

Being offended does not make you a victim.

Being "victimized" can offend one.
I think folks are getting confused by semantics.
One can be "victimized", but refuse to "play the victim".
I believe the blacks who left the store, complying with what was being instructed, were offended, and were "victimized" by the prankster.
Calling the store out, for it's negligence is not "playing the victim"...it's calling the store into accountability. I'm sure given what people know now, they have moved on, and are unfazed. It's not like it's a new occurrence, with no basis in reality.

You see that quite a bit on discussion sites...:doh

How about this joke, but you do not know who is saying it-

Hey did you hear that Halmark is making a Barack Obama Christmas ornament? Now everyone can hang a nigger from a tree.

Who care who said it? It's a disgusting thing to say. I don't think context matters at all with this one. What's truly stupid is what passes for comedy these days. Comedians don't even try to be clever, they're out to elicit laughs by shocking.

I will agree that when white people make racist jokes, there's a public outcry for apologies and rehab. When racist jokes come from a minority, it's suppose to be funny. Frankly, I don't see the humor in either nor do I see the pressure for sensitivity training. If someone wants to build a career on being offensive, let their careers suffer by not being supported by a disgusted public.

I am NOT going to admit to something I do not agree with. So, no. I stand by my position. Context is what matters.

Oh, please. That seems to be the grounds for folks 'round here throwing the n-word around like it's salt.....context, or the lack thereof.
Sometimes context matters, other times it does not.

Would you tell the joke to a random black person(someone you do not know)?

wow. racist much?

I am uninterested in what OTHERS think, when discussing what I think. To me, context is what matters. If someone takes offense at a white comedian telling a joke about blacks, then, for me, they are not getting the context, and my opinion of them would be that they are playing the victim.

I also think that most folks who understand context would feel similarly to me, though their millage may vary to some extent.

And one could add "context".
