The U.S.'s truest ally

Who is the U.S.'s staunchest ally?

Israel, the supporter of all US Middle East policies.

GB, because they are the biggest butt kissers imaginable.

I don't think we have a closer ally than Canada.

I'd say Canada, mainly because of geography. But I do think that Great Britain and Israel are logical choices too.

I think Australia tends to more fully support our foreign objectives than any other country, though the UK and Canada are right behind. Among those not mentioned, some of the countries in the former soviet bloc absolutely love us.

I would say Canada is our truest friend, but not ally. That goes to the UK.

Who is it, in your opinion?
UK. No question.

The US, the UK, Canada. Australia and New Zealand are all very closely allied, and for obvious reaosns.

Of course, with The Obama refusing to back the UK on the resurging Falklands issue, this may change -- if so, this will be far more embarassing than anything done by GWB.

The age of allies and alliances is o'er.
No vote.
These occurred as stronger nations were a threat. Islam may be a threat, and this would be a reason for alliances,I think..
But the Islamic "threat" must be handled via knowledge...not military, not religion, but the truth, honesty and openness..

The age of empires is over, and has been for some time.
What should be embarrassing is not keeping up with the times.

Goven the apparart need for 'an international consensus' before anyone can do anything, this cannot possible be true.

An approcach that requires the willingness of the opponent to be enlightened, a willingness that does not, nor will likely ever exist.

And, in any case, your response doesnt address the question -- whatever you think may eventually happen, the US certainly does have allies now.

so, what your saying is because imperial ambitions are gone, that negates military treaties?

or that military treaties between sovereign nations are a form of imperialism?

or that if you eat too much beetroot your pee will turn purple?

'cause that's not a very clear statement

Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are technically part of Great Britain in a way.

Not really, but kinda. The Queen is their head of state, but they have complete independence from the UK.

Wooo. Go shout that in the streets of Toronto, Sydney and Auckland. Your butt will be handed to you as they stick you on a plane.

I believe we still have that historical tie to Britain that was observable in the 19th century. We have our differences, but I believe we are more Anglophiles than many would appreciate. Israel is a great friend, and perhaps we will continue to be tied, whether or not we will see our destinies as more or less intertwined, but I believe we have always identified and will continue to identify best with Britain.

Australia, New Zealand and US are very close due to the ANZUS treaty, though i believe there was a lapse in the NZ-US part of it a while ago from something to do with nukes, i'd say it is GB and Aus, Israel will be an ally only for as long as the US is useful to them, but currently they are close allies.
