Are Polticians role models?

I find the results interesting, with no real clear division by party line as to the results, which I find unexpected.

For me, politicians are people who are trying to serve their country, trying to make the country better. While there are some who abuse the job and are corrupt, I don't think this is most. I honestly believe that most politicians, even the ones I disagree with are trying to do what they think of as right for the country. As such, I think they are some one we should hold up as role models, that we should point them out to kiuds as people to be like when they grow up.

I can't remember which particular politician said it but if I remember correctly, it was worded that around 85% of people in office are there for themselves and the rest are there for what it was intended to be.

I know that it is just hearsay but I don't think it's wise to look up to those people.

Generally speaking, I don't think adults(who happen to be more politically aware/involved than kids) need or desire to have role models. I certainley cannot think of a politician/actor/athlete that I would really look to, to shape my thoughts and ideas even if they were ideal people.

Role models are more for kids. Having someone to look up to, and want to emulate in the future. And I don't have a problem with that. But with the 24/7 blitz of political/celebrity news, its nearly impossible for anybody famous to keep their image clean.

Not talking specific politicians, but overall, are politicians some one that should be seen as appropriate role models? Are politicians some one that parents should say about "work hard and you can be like then"?

Poll incoming, please be patient of my slow typing.

Edit: poll done.

I hope not.

Maybe at some point in time (Washington, Lincoln?) politicians would have been role models (do you want to be President when you grow up?) but now? Ugh. Maybe the very small percentage of them who aren't corrupt would be suitable.. those that keep their promises, actually think they are doing the public a service by representing them and working hard FOR their constituents and not for their funding dollars - unfortunately, I don't know of many politicians that fit the bill of "role model"... especially for the very young.

That is because I am talking in general, not about specific politicians.

In that case then they should not be viewed as positive role models. There is far too much opportunity for failure.
