You mean you did need studies to tell you that the earth is flat? Those are some messed up studies.
Third time's a strike.
Well, according to science, sexual activity correlates to an increase in performance
This holds zero relevance to the issue of distraction.
Ok, so lets suppose that while actually in the process of taking a shower someone gets a bit distracted. Are you afraid they might forget to wash behind their ears? Oh noes!

Once the shower is over, presumably soldiers should have enough mental discipline to focus on the task at hand.
The distraction carries on during normal, daily activities.

Anyway, this is the military's policy, and apparently the military desires a minimum of distractions from the accomplishment of one's job.
If you are feeling aroused by that(hah), feel free to complain to your local town officer, beyond that there's not much that I could do.

Well, us civilians seem to be able to focus on our jobs in spite of sexual "distractions" well enough. Maybe we have superpowers.

I know! When I worked on the river, many of us guides - both male and female - changed clothes together before and after trips. I mean.. we saw each other nekkid! It's a wonder we were able to then paddle down class v rivers, taking 9 guest's lives into our hands, make split second decisions, and sometimes tend to serious injuries. I don't know how we did it. I mean, all I could think about while crashing my raft through 15 foot waves was, "I saw Tommy's pee pee!" It's a wonder we weren't all killed.

When I drove an ambulance, I had to share quarters with a male medic. We had to live together for days on end. Sleeping next to each other, seeing each other barely clothed. I don't know how we managed to actually save so many people's lives day in and day out. I mean, I remember once I was applying pressure to someone's femoral artery in an attempt to keep them from bleeding out (and save their leg) and all I could think was, "Goddamn I wanna **** my partner!"

/end sarcasm

I don't know how we do it either. We simply must be of better caliber than those who serve in our military.

Your "/end sarcasm" came a few lines earlier.

Sorry dear, I was serious. Everything I described actually happened and still happens on a daily basis. My only sarcasm was the wondering why we were actually able to perform our jobs. I KNOW why. Because we're adults, and trained, and care about our work. That's where the sarcasm ended. The final sentences speak only truth. If we civilians can do it and the military folks can't, then we civilians MUST be better caliber people. Apparently the military does some ****ty training, if we're to believe you and others who speak the same nonsense.

Sounds to me like the military needs to train people better, or recruit more grown ups.

I could give you a well-thought, honest answer as to why your work as a civilian cannot be compared with the life of a soldier who hasn't seen his home for entire months, but then again, I only reply that way to people of a higher-caliber.

Yeah I mean it's not like I was working on a boat or something.
That has nothing to do with your ability or lack thereof to give a 'well thought out answer'.

There are plenty of civilian contractors in theater who don't have issues working away from home around opposite gender and sexual orientations. So the whole 'away from home' thing isn't going to hold water with me, or likely anyone else. If a person cannot control themselves and are too distracted by sex to do their job, then they really have no business in our military.

I think we all know and agree that many of our nation's best and brightest are wearing uniforms tonight in the service of our country. And you are absolutely right. All surveys I have seen express that an overwhelming landslide, majority of the people, questioned in the military, suggests that our men and women in uniform would have no problem serving side-by-side with gays.

But beyond the smoke, it's really not about the military to the nay-sayers. That's just a "rightous" cloaking vehicle to air their dissent of the advancement of homosexual rights, human-courtesy's and liberties. Some people truly have a problem with that. Why? Don't ask me. Don't make sense to me either. But some folks.... well.

But so what. Twenty years ago, folks with this mindset were plentiful. Ten years ago, not so much. Today, barely enough to make a stink. Five years ahead, they will be a fart in a whirlwind. Change takes time. But change is obvious. These folks who are so anti-gay in their ideologies are losing. They know it. They hate it. Any means or oppertunity for them to plant their seeds will not be an oppertunity wasted.

Soon come mon....

Every little thing, gon' be alright.

It is not a question of "able" or "not able".
That is a military policy, effecting military personnel, AKA, soldiers.

If the military feels that this is a distraction, then it would take care of it.

A soldier's work starts the moment he's being recruited and ends the moment he's being released.
A civilian has a termed frame time of work, where he has to center on his job and avoid distractions.
A soldier needs to center on his job for his entire conscious time, and will avoid distractions as long as he's in uniform.

If we are to draw a conclusion from that that soldiers are less capable of normal civilians, we are to mock the intelligence of mankind as a specie and as individuals, as the two issues are, simply, incomparable.

Finally, when you claim that you are of a better caliber than a person who risks his life for your continued living, you, unavoidably, earn the disrespect of many people.

I beg to differ. I served on a base with 10,000 sailors. 900 were women. You think I wasn't distracted? Did the Navy send the women packing?

If what you said were true, the women would be the more distracting since most all sailors are hetro sexual. If what you said were true, the military would have "taken care" of that distraction.

Epic fail. :(

A few posts back, I have stated that the military's policy is to avoid such distractions when possible.

Obviously it isn't going to make women disappear from the military bases, but it isn't going to allow shared showers between males and females.

"Epic fail". :fart

As far fetched as this sounds, the way things are going, I wouldn't be too sure of that. (We can always hope. :rofl)

But one thing you can be sure of, the gays will eventually get their due.

From one epic failure to another, you can bet on that.
;)

As a person who's voted "yes" on this poll I sure do hope that.

Now you're just acting silly, you have made nothing in this specific post that could be even considered a smack(even an attempt at a smack), even in your damaged opinion. :rofl

You'll forgive me if I remain picky as to whom I reserve my smack-down's for. You're not quite there yet Skippy. You are still rather insignificant to me. Not that that's a bad thing. Just sayin'.

The so-called "righteous" need to be told exactly where they can shove it, with a clear and detailed map if they really need it.

Then our feelings are quite mutual, Joe, since I hold more significance for my nephew's three-legged ill turtle than I hold for you. :2razz:

He can't even walk right.

I totally understand bro. But I do hope your nephew's turtle gets to feeling better. :2wave:

I claim I am of better caliber than someone who is supposed to be doing a job but can't because they're too distracted about sex. *cue beavis and butthead laughs* You are the one making the claim that our soldiers are those very immature, easily distracted, shallow, and under-trained individuals who cannot do a job because they are too distracted about 'teh sexxors'.

Personally, I hold our soldiers in higher regard than that. Actually, I hold most PEOPLE in higher regard than that. It's sad that you and others like you... don't.

If, in fact, our military is made up of the poor caliber of people you claim it is, then I hope we can get rid of all of them and start recruiting better ones.

I know, right? Sometimes I take a shower with a girl I am very attracted to in the morning and then head to the airport to fly complex multiengine aircraft. Its just amazing that I was able to get an IFR clearance when all I could think about was the boobies I saw in the shower that morning.

Incredibly, I am not allowed to consume alcohol less than 8 hours before a flight, but I am allowed to shower with a girl. It's like the FAA isn't taking this threat of "sexual distraction" seriously.:doh
